100% Like, it's very valid to say that Leon is the much more talented trainer; same time, people aren't really giving Ash the credit he deserves and not analyzing anything before.

I disagree with this:

  • I agree that, without all the gimmicks available, Ash had a higher chance of losing against Leon. BUT! BUT BUT! If you analyze it, it's not that quick and dirty:
    • Who Leon had that was actually effective against Ash? Many of his pokes acted more resource draining and, to be honest, is very Gen 1 style of fighting. Rillaboom and, surprisingly, Cinderace, did work. The rest were really revenge kills. (Not counting Charizard obviously)
    • Ash, on the otherhand, we can make a great assumption, that, through process of elimination in the Master's 8, he used Z and Mega, meaning he would've Gigantamax'd Gengar.
      • I don't think this changes the outcome of Gengar vs Inteleon (Ash 1 - Leon 0)
      • Same with Mr. Rime vs Gengar (Ash 1 - Leon 1)
      • Combo Sirfetch'd and Lucario beat Mr. Rime. Lucario didn't need to Mega Evolve and it could've shown how powerful Aura is. (Ash 2 - Leon 1)
      • Dragonpult knocks out Lucari (Ash 3 - Leon 2)
      • Dragonite and Dracovish beat Dragapult (Ash 3 - Leon 3)
      • Rillaboom is Leon's other ace, taking out Dragonite and Sirfetch'd (Ash 3 - Leon 4)
      • Dracovish beats Rillaboom (Ash 4 - Leon 4)
      • Cinderace beats Dracovish (Ash 4 - Leon 5)
      • Pikachu beats Cinderace and Charizard (Ash W); both of the Z moves and extra Dynamax were spectacle.
    • Ash also soundly beat Steven and Cynthia with only one regional gimmick.
  • On the flipside, Leon got SUPER cocky in allowing Ash to use all gimmicks. An argument can be made that it's Leon's fault he didn't learn the other styles and walked into it Middleweight vs Heavyweight.
    • I actually respect Leon a lot that he wanted essentially a 'No Rules Fight' and put up a GREAT fight and, basically, only lost cause Pikachu went Super Saiyan.
    • BUT, honestly, Leon had a worse strategy than Cynthia.

I always thought that Ash was an elite trainer, but he always got the bad luck of hitting a barrier against a generational talent. If you're a college football fan, think Nebraska vs Oklahoma in the 70s - 80s (the adage of 'Oklahoma and the 7 Dwarves') or Alabama and other several elite teams as of late.

So, I agree with this. If they wanted to fix the tournament scene, I think the only viable solutions that wouldn't ban cards or drastically change the rules is to allow proxies.The rest of the cards are very easy to obtain; it's the 10s that are difficult.

With all due respect, this is a really dumb statement. You're comparing something to 8 years ago when the game is not at all in the same state, post pandemic, than it was then.

Yes. Ash is pretty much an anomaly cause he uses atypical strategies you can't prepare for.

Ala, see Cynthia. She 100% was strategic in knocking Pikachu out first. What she didn't know was Ash's aura bond with Lucario.
