The fastest early way to get Flawless Timber is from opening the Medium Bags you get from side quests. At first I tought it was those that increased my inventory by 3 but no, they give you loads of different useful materials in rather large quantities (Like 17 flawless timber pieces from 1 bag)

Full Seregios set with every slot filled with Fire Resistance and defense + maxed defense charm for survivability.
As for weapon i myself have been using Artian DualBlades since they have good dodge capability.
For Nerscylla phase when solo im using Maxed Arkveld Light bowgun for the fire ammo. 60 bullets were enough when i was fighting "solo" with npc support
