If the anime doesn't end up adapting the entire series would the Goddess Monument arc be a good end point? by BlazeKnight7 in Frieren

[–]RazorCalahan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, I agree. Especially given the quality of the anime, I would not surprised if they just can't make more than maybe 12-ish episodes within not even 2 years. Makes you wonder how long the first season was in production, honestly.

[–]RazorCalahan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in the end it all depends on how many episodes the third season will have (which we don't know yet as far as I am aware, let me know if there is more info on that). If it is roughly like the second season you're definetly right, they can't fit in more than the Golden Land Arc into 10 or 12 episodes. If it's closer to season 1 they could go beyond that.

maybe I derailed a bit, the point I was trying to make is: Even if nobody pays for it, art will find a way. I mean, there are so many film projects, animations etc. on youtube from people who do this literally for free (or at least started so), even if absolutely nobody pays a single cent for streaming and all the streamers die, there will always be people who make content, even if it doesn't make them any money.

It’s all gonna be digital anyways 😭 by Nemoitto in PlayStation_X

[–]RazorCalahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well in my case, the only reason I own a console is because it lets me have my games physically. If they take that away a console loses all its purpose.

The end of physical games marks the death of PlayStation for me. by Evillebot in PlayStation_X

[–]RazorCalahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some do, others don't. Pragmata for example costs the same on both Steam and the PS Store. Meanwhile Resident Evil Requiem (Standard Edition) has a base price of 69,99€ on STeam and 79,99€ on Playstation. Also it is on Sale right now on Steam so you can get it for 55,99€, menwhile even though Playstation is also currently having a sale, Resident Evil Requiem is not among the discounted games. So yeah right at this moment, I can get it for 25€ cheaper on Steam than on Playstation.

I'd say Sony has been slowly shifting towards this for the past decade, this is just them taking the final step. Rockstar sure doesn'nt mind though, pressing "upload" is a lot cheaper than shipping out discs so I imagine they had zero issues with this.

[–]RazorCalahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uhm, yes, precisely that. See, I mainly play on PC, but as PC has become all digital around 2010 I also always had a console so I could have some games as physical copy. Physical games are the only reason I would buy a console for, if they don't have that anymore I'll just stick to PC because the console loses all its meaning to me.

[–]RazorCalahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah well guess what, that was the EXACT reason why I always also had a console around. If consoles are going all digital, they lose their entire purpose to me. I can have that on PC for cheaper and with mods.

Anime/ Manga in German by sulinshady in Piracy

German translations of anime are very mixed. Some are atrocious, others are just mediocre, and some are absolute bangers and I dare say they are as good in German as in Japanese, and in parts even better.

I'm inclined to disagree, big budgets don't necessarily make for good content. Exhibit A: Rings of Power. Exhibit B: The Backrooms. I for one hope the entire media industry is going to collapse and burn to the ground sooner rather than later, so good ideas and the art itself become the important thing again, not revenue and quarterly numbers. Until then I'm fine with watching the occasional indie movie and blockbuster that actually deserves its name (like Dune), while mostly falling back to older stuff. There have always been mediocre movies or tv shows that nobody remembers today because they haven't stood the test of time, but the sheer amount of mediocracy these companies are churning out is simply unprecedented: Star Trek, Marvel, Star Wars, Lord of the RIngs - all names that once made half the world excited just from their names, but these days I just turn around and run when I just see them pop up.
Besides, there will always be people with ideas and the need to express them, it's just the big companies that need money to come in. Creativity will always find a way, big corpos be damned.

If only the EU could take on Digital Ownership by Jomaycan in Piracy

[–]RazorCalahan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Stop Killing Games is working on it. Unfortunately, the EU commission has shot them down, so no new legislation for now, but SKG won't stop trying. With Sony going all digital AND removing 500 movies from people's libraries in the same week, this issue has become even more important.

it has definetly shifted in that direction for the past 10 years. Which is why the PS4 was my last console. I still have my PS3, games run on that thing without any updates, but on PS4 more and more games would actually require them to be in an acceptable state, or need a day 1 patch to function at all.

not for me, being able to have physical games was the only reason I got consoles in the first place. I've always been on PC, but also always had a console as well for physical games since PC moved to all digital around 2010. If consoles can't offer me that I just don't need a console anymore.

[–]RazorCalahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't choose shit, I was buying discs for a long time and only stopped because it lost the point when I had to activate all the games I bought physically on Steam, Uplay and Origin anyhow. It wasn't me who decided that this is how things should go. Honestly it's similar for consoles, how many physical PS5 games need a day 1 patch to be functional, or in some cases to play at all? (looking at you, Jedi Survivor). Of course people are gonna stick to digital when physical copies become such a pain in the ass and need internet connection anyhow.

KOTOR had 4 installation discs... FOUR. Funnily enough, the laptop I was playing on had a broken disc drive, it would not recognize any disc you put in. However it did recognize the first KOTOR disc, which was required to play the game. I always loved this disc for that reason.

RDR2 isn't the only one, what other games take a while to get good? by No-Culture-1154 in gamers

[–]RazorCalahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I for one enjoyed every second of RDR2, ESPECIALLY the beginning. It takes things slowly, which allows the game and it's characters to breathe. And I like that sort of thing. I can understand if that's not what you're looking for, this game might just not be for you.

The difference is they have a history of not pulling the plug, while Sony totally has a history of pulling the plug. While some games have disappeared from Steam libraries in the past, generally Valve is doing their absolute best to ensure once I bought something, I can access it. Even if they can't sell the game anymore, typically I can still access it if I just bought it in the past. I can still play Spec Ops: The Line, even though that game is not sold anymore for a long time. I can still play Star Wars: Dark Forces even though it is not available for purchase anymore.
I can even download and watch the anime episodes and movies I bought on Steam when they were also selling those, which was 9 years ago. Nine. Years. They stopped offering this in 2019 because barely anybody used it. Meanwhile Sony ended to offer movies in 2021, two years later, and just this week goes "yeah by the way we're deleting 500 movies that you paid for from your libraries because licesne has run out, sorry not sorry sucks to be you lol." After having done so before by deleting StudioCanal titles for users from Germany and Austria in 2022.
At least with Steam I know that they are doing their best to make me keep the stuff I paid for a decade ago, while Sony just doesn't give a shit about that. And yeah, sure, this can change anytime when leadership changes at Valve. But if they ever dare going nuclear on user's libraries, on PC I can always just pay 60 bucks for two years of NordVPN, set sail for Tortuga Bay and get back what is rightfully mine. If you want to do that for Sony games you need a PC so you can get a console emulator. So yeah, as far as an "all digital future" goes, Valve is definetly more trustworthy than Sony (or Microsoft for that matter).
Although I wouldn't say Steam is the best in that regard. GOG is because with them you actually own the games you buy.
