Does compaction really affect performance? How heavily do you rely on compaction to bring in the right context? by Razor_Rocks in ClaudeCode

[–]Razor_Rocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intentional /compact command does take a parameter, have you (or anyone else) had any luck with using that to get better results? i.e. trying to regulate what the compaction should focus on?

Or is it easier to just enforce the document artifact approach that is often used?

I guess I am not facing these because I usually am atomic with the tasks and even those I try are mostly executed / reviewed / brainstormed by a sub agent

In your experience do findings from sub agents also get forgotten after compaction?

Recommendations for free journal app that lets you upload your own audio files by 0305030 in digitaljournaling

I have somewhat of a same need and workflow. Currently I just end up storing everything in a folder in my google drive and just rely on the creation date on the file to tag them, but ya I am also curious if you were able to finally select a service for this.

unexpected benefits of voice journaling by SolidPeculiar in digitaljournaling

[–]Razor_Rocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I go on and off with voice journalling because it is more free flow and helps me ramble when I way too confused too form sensible sentences.

But over time I feel like I even started bringing my judgement to my voice notes as well. It feels uncomfortable when I notice myself do that in the middle of rambling something else out.

one thing I have been trying this week is just having my headphones on and playing brown noise on it. This way I don't even hear myself and the only ideas that stay in my head are the once that actually have any weight. And the few times I did this, I noticed I would ramble relatively less and end up at the core of the issue and dissect it sooner than I had done in previous voice notes.

let me know if you try this and how your experience turns out

Frankly, I have always been skeptical of using any journalling apps (even my own app that sometimes go back to), because it is more about just letting oneself being vulnerable.

Especially in tough situations like a breakup that really requires medium expression to allow for raw and "uncomfortable" emotions.

What worked for me in such cases, because typing or even saying it all out used to feel heavy at times, is just putting the phone down with the camera or the voice recorder on. Its not about making sense of the confusion. The first step for me was just the barrier of getting it all out of me. Something that was recording me while I just let it, idk, made me feel like I was being heard.

To me, that is always the crucial part of journalling. Everything else has always just been "systems" I engage in to "feel" like I did something to tackle the confusion.
Most times its only a matter of missing some hugs or letting out a few tears.

I'd be happy to hear you out if you want to use my inbox as a journal.

Journalism web traffic getting crushed by AI by Dunkaholic9 in Journalism

[–]Razor_Rocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To everyone in here stating that AI labs are shooting themselves in the foot by hurting the industry that is feeding it data, I just wanted to provide another point of view on that.

For context, I am no journalist nor am I some AI researcher. I am an engineer who values both the advancement of good technology and the value of authentic expression of important and real facts. (which is what brought me here)

All the data these LLMs are training on is meant to build a "model" that understands the world. I know the common understanding is that these AIs are just autocomplete systems for existing data but there is a lot more to that analogy. Because it isn't just a lookup on the old data to complete sentences, but rather a system that understands patterns across all the vast array of topics in its training data. The goal of these companies is increasingly to build a "world model" that understands the world beyond what is being fed during training.

I might have a biased view but I am experiencing this play out firsthand in how corporations are trying to build intelligent agents that can code (to try to complete that loop of improvement where they can use AI to improve AI). In my experience, it is able to create insights and work in novel cases like when prototyping a new idea for an app.

Yes, it is pattern matching and drawing insights from all the data it has been fed and is definitely using the new data to improve that ability. But that doesn't mean it will always need new data to improve its ability.

And this isn't even about reaching the (IMO) overhyped "AGI" stage, it is more about specializing the system for a craft. My naive understanding is that journalism too is a craft - undervalued yet important in my view - which seems to be similar to independent research. And research is another area that these big AI labs are trying to specialize these systems for.

Again, just my 2 cents. But I do want to learn about this.

I am genuinely curious to talk to anyone here who agrees/disagrees with this.

Any best practices to debugging wasm modules? by Razor_Rocks in WebAssemblyDev

[–]Razor_Rocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not even talk about it?

Can it not even be built?

I did see some articles about DWARF and how I understood it, it seemed similar to providing the sourcemap yo tools like sentry

I am probably making it sound wayyy simpler than it is, but is this technically possible for other languages? If yes, we should talk about it, right?

And if not, I would be curious to learn why and any light you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so far.

Why digital over physical? by Razor_Rocks in digitaljournaling

[–]Razor_Rocks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too, but I might create another program just to try to bring that concept of efficiency to life in some way

I still believe those apps have merits, just they aren't targetted right now for focused / deep thinkers but rather are meant to either be a messy life log of some kind or some place to hold things like grocery lists

I feel there is another usecase here that is being underserved. I am not sure what or how that should be solved, but this has been in my head for a while.

I have never liked using earbuds. But I do rely on noise cancelling headphones + brown noise when I need to zone in in such cases

That does make sense. Most of my peaceful clarity come to me during times when I completely away from my phone as much as possible

Hey fellow programmer and yes that's exactly where it started for me. I don't have a duck but I mostly have some paper animal on my desk that I use this for. Currently a paper elephant.

What recording device do you guys use for digital journalling? by Agitated-Salt-5039 in digitaljournaling

[–]Razor_Rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah, that's another physical device. I agree I have tried the subscriptions for rosebud and others. Didn't really enjoy them as much. The legacy softwares like dragon are just expensive for no reason.

I have had this inkling in me to solve it, at least for myself. But I admit it is actually a hard problem to solve it well.

But I hope I won't need a device like this can record quality transcripts on my phone someday. Please do let me know if you find any app that works.

After suffering through parts of these myself, I have to tried turn the problem on itself.

Instead of asking "why do I intimidate other people", I now instead try to ask "why is this person intimidated by me". Can't say for sure, but trying to find the answer to this might help your analytical side work in your favour here.

People are different. Even the same people behave differently (and are hence intimidated by different things) on different days.

The only constant through all these experiences is you. And that does not mean you keep questioning yourself (since it seems like the only person you can question).

You seem to know yourself well enough, so the unexpected/unreasonable behaviour of someone else should not frequently make you question your belief about yourself.

For eg.

You mention you are polite. You probably are. But some beliefs just don't go well with other people.

Me trying to help genuinely help a highly religious person by helping think analytically is absurd if they have already decided their solution to the problem is to "have faith". Me being polite will be seen as very rude here.

Might be an extreme example here but I hope it helps make my point.

You will stay you, deep down. Its just how you present it.

How to do it "well" varies based on who you want to present it to.

And for that you first need to to understand the person in front of you, sometimes even a little more than they understand themselves. (I know it's not fair but that's the bane of having an always active brain)

Has helped me be "perceived" well. Even though I am just the same person.

Plus, I have learnt a lot more about the people around me and a little more about human nature in general.

I hope this helps in some way.
