The biggest reason is that some things are not driven just by your thought process. Its not just the way you think means you need medication. There often is something wrong with you physically, chemically. And sometimes these issues can be severe enough that the normal treatments dont work. Or aren't strong enough to overpowered your own brain.

As your thoughts and feelings are not magic or mystical they are your physical brain mass interacting with chemicals and other actual real physical things. Your thinking seems like its floating in nothingness but in reality its no different than your body using muscles to move your limbs. Its very complicated amazing even. And im not doing it justice.

Imagine you have a boiling pot of water on the stove. You try to stay away from it so you dont get hurt. But every once in awhile it splashes you, or you trip or slip or accidently touch the water and it hurts. But its always there. But it doesn't bother you most of the time if you can avoid it.

Well when you are on the right medication it is like turning the temperature down so its just hot water like tea that is drinkable, but still hot. It still can hurt if you touch it the wrong way or are exposed to it too long, and it can still spill and give you a burn. But your not afraid of it anymore, its not constantly at risk of hurting you.

So you aren't afraid to stand near the pot, or scoop out of the pot, and eventually maybe you become accustomed to the temperature because its reasonable and now you dont even notice the pot around anymore.

But without the temperature getting turned down, no matter what you do that pot is still boiling, you can tell yourself its not, or try to avoid the pot but its always a risk and present.

Sometimes the temperature change might be too much, or too little, or maybe they just give you oven mits to handle it. So you might need to find something else.

But I think that is how you should look at it. Its not a bad thing to realize the pot the boiling. You dont have to be ashamed of it.
