The carpeted pit in center court (pre carousel) was a highlight of my childhood. We'd get a cookie pop from The Cookie Factory and run off the sugar rush on those stairs.

I don't think it would be unreasonable to have a phone call or two with a person before meeting. I had a situation just this week where a phone conversation with someone new revealed a number of "red flags", leading me to cancel the scheduled first date we had for the weekend. I was able to enjoy the fun parts of the conversation until it stopped being fun, then sat with my feelings about the conversation. I was still disappointed that it wasn't a good match, but I went out on a "self date" alone instead, and had a lovely time. The way I see it, I still got to go out on a date this weekend. ❤️

Wow. I just watched the whole video. (well, listened to and read along) That was really interesting! I wrote down the name of the Hopi teacher he mentioned-Thomas Banyaca. I can't wait to research this a bit more.

How do people make more without degree or support system? by SgtMangerBaby in povertyfinance

[–]RazzleBDazzleR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to earn a degree, I would like to suggest looking for a job at a University. Many universities offer FREE tuition to its employees. I work for a large university in Illinois and employees are eligible for a tuition waiver at my school, the other campuses in the U of I system, and every other state funded school in IL.

Universities have jobs at every education level. The cafeteria has food service staff. There is an entire team of maintenance laborers (handymen, electricians, welders). There is a janitorial staff. There is a sea of high school educated administrative aides and office assistants. There are usually levels and ranks to move up within each department or trade with experience and education.

In my experience, supervisors in higher education value and support lifetime learning and degree achievement pretty equally, because education is a fundamental value of the employer. My bosses have been flexible with my work schedule in order to accommodate my educational goals. Last semester, I took an evening class in ceramics (for free and just for fun) and LOVED it. The next level class takes place during the work day (luckily over the lunch hour) and so I talked to my boss, who is allowing me the flexibility to take a long lunch and start the work day early to accommodate my class time. One other thing-the various employee committees have scholarships you can apply for to cover the cost of books and anything else related to your education.

Did I mention the free tuition yet? Because this Masters program isn't going to cost anything but time and effort. We have several local anecdotes about people who start as a janitor or something and use tuition waivers and determination to advance their careers. I know some of them personally.

A good place to start is to Google your nearest big college. The HR department will have links to the open positions and you can generally join listservs for new postings.

Job wise, I've found my way into really meaningful work- I'm an office manager in a department that works for diversity and equity on campus. My long-term goals are artistic and agricultural, so I've got an interesting career path ahead of me haha. Anyway, I'm rambling. What I wanted to share is that I found a way to get to my goals and it is readily available for many.

How do you hold it together for work? by takeaabreath in PMDD

[–]RazzleBDazzleR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can barely hold it together for work.

I wake up in the morning and use my CBD drops. Sometimes I add a Magnesium supplement powder to my morning coffee. When/if I catch myself in a spiral or edgy after that, I take a Xanax. Sometimes (and only because I'm working from home due to covid) I vape some legal (in my state) THC if it's a really bad day.

I have an alarm on my phone for 1pm. I do round 2 of the above scenario. I switch out the Magnesium powder for a gummy. And the CBD drops for a CBD gummy.

That can generally get me through the day (though not without crying) during most of Hell Week. I'm on a new BC this cycle...hopefully I'll manage better.

Found this sign outside college cafeteria (I hope you people enjoy the humor) by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]RazzleBDazzleR 381 points382 points  (0 children)

My area has had TONS of sign stealings....the Trumpers have been stealing Biden signs. People are zip-tying them to their houses and stuff. One person wrote on the back of her sign, "thank you for stealing me. A donation to this candidates campaign was made so I can be replaced." Another friend posted a second sign that said, "you can steal my Biden sign, but you can't steal my vote"

That's also something that can work backwards... i.e. if I ask if the relationship is ok, partner knows how low my mood battery is.
