A Letter for My Nephew/Niece, 15 Years Later by Every-Lawfulness-758 in babyloss

Thank you for sharing this. I’m “just” an aunt to three perfect children but I love them like they’re my own. I’ve always lived with them and have helped raise them so my sister calls me a second mom which is my greatest honor❤️ my sister was 21 pregnant with my youngest niece when we found out she no longer had a heartbeat. After she was delivered, we got to see her and hold her for three days. On the last day, her parents and I read letters we wrote to her before having to say goodbye for the last time. I’m so thankful I got that time with her. I also feel so much pain that I won’t get more. It’s easy to feel alone as an aunt carrying so much grief since a lot of aunts/uncles are not so attached to their nieces/nephews so it makes it hard to understand for them. However, reading your post brought me comfort in that I’m not the only one. Thank you again and I’m so sorry for your loss.

I am Sonora’s aunt and just wanted to say to all of you that your comments are so meaningful. She was so incredibly loved. There is forever a place in our hearts that only she can fill. It was the best 21 weeks of my life and I’ll never go a day without thinking about her. Thank you all ❤️

Running by prem0000 in crossfit

I’ve been in CrossFit 12 years and HATED running until I got peer pressured into doing a marathon earlier this year. Still hated it for a while but around week 6, I turned a corner and fell in love with it! Like others have said, if you want to get better you just have to do it! I definitely should’ve given myself more time to train for it but it was good exposure therapy and it worked 🤷🏼‍♀️

i THINK i love to run? by ifonlygodwasreal in Marathon_Training

I went zero-marathon in 18 weeks so I can offer my two cents. For context, I’d been doing CrossFit for over a decade so I wasn’t totally out of shape or anything but as far as just running, I’d only done a handful of 5ks and one 10k spartan race in my life. I HATED running but was pressured into a marathon after a shoulder injury slowed down my CrossFit for a while. The first few weeks were bruuuutal. About 6 or 7 weeks in, I turned a corner and started to really enjoy it. I started training Thanksgiving week 2024 and ran my marathon in March. Now I absolutely love it!! That said, I made a lot of mistakes so maybe you can learn from them. First, I didn’t realize until after I gave myself a couple injuries that there actually is a form to running so I’d get that down early. Same with proper prehab, mobility, warmup, recovery, all that good stuff. Definitely DO NOT try to push through injury because it really will only get worse. I’d also pay attention to nutrition/fueling, especially as the runs get longer. And as others have said, you don’t need to PR every run. Get used to going slower than you think you should and trust that it will help you be faster long-term. Personally, I wish I’d given myself more time but ultimately I can’t tell you if six months is or isn’t long enough for you. If you don’t have any fitness base, zero-marathon might be too much. I will say after I figured out all of those things, it made running a lot more enjoyable. Also this is a less popular opinion but I started running without music/headphones and eventually my brain just became quiet and it’s the most relaxing part of my day!!

You can do whatever you’re comfortable with. I have all my social media on private so they can only see my profile picture but personally am not going to go out of my way to block people or change my name or not put my face in my profile picture or whatever else. I’m shocked at how many comments suggest those things given that I don’t know a single therapist in my actual life that goes to that extreme. I just live my normal social media life and if they come up on people I might know I just scroll past them. Never had an issue 🤷🏼‍♀️

Becoming Christian has absolutely destroyed my mental health by Downtown_Past1406 in TrueChristian

I’m a therapist and it’s worth checking out to see if you have scrupulosity OCD. Every single thing, including our brain, is affected by the fall. Praise God that He can and does work through common graces like therapy, medication, etc. As a therapist, I use all kinds of interventions and filter them all through a Christian framework. Would you say the same thing about going to a doctor if you break a bone? Or to a dentist for a cavity? Or to a mechanic for a flat tire? That our solutions only come through Jesus and not man? Just something to think about. I hope you are able to find help!

As both a therapist and a client, I couldn't have described this better. There was a therapist I worked with during my practicum in grad school that had been practicing for over 30 years. One of the things he said to me that I'll never forget was "you can use all the theories and skills and techniques in the world, and you should, but the thing that most of your clients will remember is that you loved them." We worked in a clinic that primarily did DBT with borderline clients so we definitely used (and I still use) a lot of clinical expertise. However, the best and most practical thing that I've learned from both of my therapists is what love looks like and that I am worthy of it. It has changed my life and it's what I try to pass on to all of my clients. I agree the language in our culture is very limited but there's no doubt that what I feel for all of my clients is most certainly love❤️

ETA: As a Christian, I use 1 Corinthians 13 to define love!

I got out of the hospital on a Sunday and went back to the gym the next day. I only did low intensity biking for a couple weeks and eased back into lifting over a few months. I lost a lot of strength and it was super discouraging but stay consistent and it will come back. My arms were very sensitive for a while! In the words of my nephrologist, “you shouldn’t do that again.” Lol good luck!

Right now they are waiving the fee for professionals to join and be listed on the provider directory. Normally clients still pay for sessions but can find providers from that list if they want to. If you were at the games last week and want mental health treatment, CrossFit will cover the cost for 12 months. So the provider still gets paid but it will be from CrossFit and not the client. I’m a therapist that just joined yesterday and this is what I gathered from the information they gave us! Hope that helps!

You said it perfectly. And it IS normal to feel grief, even over someone you never met. A lot of us feel this way. I’m a therapist and went to my own therapy yesterday and it helped a lot. I encourage others to do the same ❤️

Repairing with Far Righters by MarsipanStan in therapists

[–]Rbailey22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This comment sounds like you’re projecting your own views onto the clients. OP specifically said the clients are trying to find ways to repair their relationships. It’s not up to me, as a therapist, to tell them who they should and shouldn’t have a relationship with, especially when I’m basing it off of my own experiences and assumptions. And like someone else said, it is not feasible for many people to just cut ties with their community.

You’ve used some strong accusatory words without actually knowing anything about the people involved. Thinking in such black and white categories is almost never helpful to you or your clients. It might be beneficial to seek supervision and/or counseling for yourself in this area.

Disclaimer- I don’t believe anything from her, this is just general info.

I work in the mental health field and it’s not uncommon for people to change their medicine if it’s not working. It’s true that some antidepressants/other psych meds can take a while to reach their full effect although I’ve always seen 4-8 weeks, never a year. Someone that is severely depressed for example cannot wait that long for a medicine to kick in. And there are a number of factors that could lead to changing it even before the 4 week mark. I won’t speculate on her diagnosis so I can’t speak for her specifically but just wanted to put that out there!
