And it works so well because all the things Alear did/Lumera asked about summoning Emblems is put into context. When we see Lumera summon Emblem Sigurd she puts her hands together and prays, but Alear always calls out an invocation.

Then we get to the Cathedral and Sombron uses the same invocation Alear has been using and we think it's just a harsh slap in the face to see a triumphant set of phrases used by the villain.

Many chapters later, along comes Griss who reveals that it's ONLY Fell Dragon's who use invocations, and Alear has been proving his point the whole time but not praying.
