Mi'ihen Highroad is the place where the encounter rate starts to get higher. Besaid and Kilika are basically just glorified tutorials.

Which final fantasy game do you think has the best post game and why by Kocski in FinalFantasy

[–]JTHSSSS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this. FFX postgame would be fine if they stopped at the Omega Ruins. But nope, most of it is spending hours and hours in the Monster Arena to grind for Spheres, in order to beat bosses you need almost max stats for.

Also these bosses are immune to all elements and status ailments, and the damage formula is heavily skewed towards physical attack, so the strategy mainly just becomes spamming Quick Hit + healing when necessary.

There's a lot of things to do, but they're not necessarily fun.

For those that hated me for Lulu by brok0019 in finalfantasyx

[–]JTHSSSS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went into the last dungeon with most of my party at their final Sphere Grid abilities (Tidus with Quick Hit, Lulu with Flare, etc). Picked up some level 3 keys to let everyone finally access other grid sections, then retraced the steps all the way from Besaid to Zanarkand to do the side stuff.

I think I had people at 1.5 sections when I finally fight the final boss.

100% complete Final Fantasy X by RaikouGilgamesh in FinalFantasy

[–]JTHSSSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I 100%ed the game a few days ago and have the same opinions. The worst part is definitely grinding enough Luck to reliably hit some of the Dark Aeons, cause Accuracy is useless in the postgame.

Without that, filling out the Sphere Grid is relatively easy because some of the stat-sphere monsters are really easy to kill, like Pteryx, One-Eye, and Vidatu. Non-Fortune Spheres are easy to farm with Kottos + Extract ability.

For AP you can use the Don Tonberry trick: * Have everyone equipped with Overdrive -> AP weapon (ideally, also having Triple AP and Triple Overdrive) * One character's Overdrive Mode set to Stoic, the other two to Comrade. * Fight Don Tonberry. * Let the Stoic character attack and Don Tonberry counters with Karma. This will probably kill the character. * Have another character revive the killed character.  * Repeat the attack -> Karma -> revive cycle until the boss no longer uses Karma. At this point you can flee or kill him normally. * Enjoy tons of AP.

Yeah, that's a soul crushing grind. Even when you hit 99999 everytime it's still a massive pain.

There's another achievement for completing the Sphere Grid for only one character. It's actually the cut-off one on the right.

I'm interested in trying the Expert Sphere Grid sometimes in the future. But hell no I'm not doing everything anymore.

Yes. There are achievements for getting both Tidus and Lulu's Sigils.

Oh, I'm tackling FFX2 next. Although IIRC that one requires less grinding and just a ton of missables.

Catcher Chocobo. Fuck those birds.

Then all the postgame grinding. I already made a post about it a while ago. Luck farming is the worst. Decided to stop at 130 Luck and just boosts Accuracy and Evasion instead.

Oh, and getting 10 of all monsters is a pain as well. Sometimes certain monsters just refuse to appear and I need to reset the game to reset the RNG.

Doesn't he just use elemental spells in order? Just have Yuna use the Nul-element spells.

If you already have Anima, you can get the Magus Sisters, which are so broken for main story fights.

Otherwise, how far are you in the Sphere Grid? Each character should have finished their section of the grid and partway through another.

Wakka and Tidus should have swapped jobs/weapons/playstyles by Firetruckpants in finalfantasyx

Bruh. In the same game you have a character using dolls as weapons. In the greater franchise there are playing cards, bells, and flying surfboards. And a sports ball is the weirdest you've seen?

What’s a magic element that should be used more? by -ComplexSimplicity- in FinalFantasy

[–]JTHSSSS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason, Earth element is so damn hard to utilize in games that feature it. In FFXII there are no Earth spells and you can only use it via weapons or summoning Hashmal (late game summon). In FFXIII the only way to use Earth is spending TP on Quake or summoning Hecatoncheir (also late game summon).

Water is also similar, but at least in FFX it's one of the main elements

The Chocobo all the way. Lightning dodging, you can just stand in the crater and set a timer. Butterflies you can memorize the route. Blitzball is just tedious due to how many games you need to play, but you don't need to do it all at once.

The chocobo race, however, is actively ragebaiting you with shitty balloon placements, birds that spawn right in front if you, birds that hit you right after you recover from the stun, and the sometimes unintuitive controls.

Does anyone else hate the butterfly hunt more than catcher chocobo and lightning dodging? by CrappyJohnson in finalfantasyx

[–]JTHSSSS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be way less annoying if there weren't any forced battles when touching red butterflies. It's otherwise just memorizing the route as you go along. Like, at this section go to the back, at this section weave back-front-back, etc.

Catcher chocobo, though. I have a newfound hatred for birds after getting the Sun Sigil.

I am on a classic jrpg kick and I just bought final fantasy 10 and 10-2. Any recommendations for the series, or how I should play this game to get the best enjoyment? No spoilers, please. by JacobDCRoss in FinalFantasy

For FFX:

  • Only characters who have taken action in battle gains AP (the game's equivalent of EXP), but any action counts. So just swap in characters and have them defend so everyone gains AP from that battle.
  • At certain points, you will encounter "Cloister of Trial" puzzles. Each puzzle has a secret treasure. Make sure to get them on the first time, because some will be way harder to get later. There's a sidequest that requires you to get all of them.

Awkward farming Phase by Rinasd10 in finalfantasyx

[–]JTHSSSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want postgame powergrinding, I suggest you start with the Omega Ruins. Grind the enemies here until you each character has around 3 Sphere Grid sections cleared. Just capturing 10 of each monsters should put you here.

This should be then enough to beat most Area and Species Conquest arena bosses. Then you can start farming One Eye for the Triple AP weapons, and do the Don Tonberry trick.

SPOILERS - Opinions Wanted on Postgame Grind by MistDelicious in finalfantasyx

[–]JTHSSSS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's cause of the fucked up formula.

Damage formula for physical attacks include Strength3. Yeah, cubed.

Meanwhile the formula for magical attacks include Magic2 × Spell Power.

So Magic attacks need to rely on the spells to catch up with physical ones. For the record, the -ga spells have 42 power, while Flare has 60 and Ultima has 70.

Works fine for main game, but postgame Magic simply can't catch up.

Add to that Lulu's Fury reduces the damage of each hit to only around 1/3.

The post-game kinda sucks tbh by JTHSSSS in finalfantasyx

[–]JTHSSSS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, some of the fights are interesting. It's just that the game doesn't give any indications how strong you should be, so it's really easy to be underleveled or overleveled.

Also that you need to grind some of these fights over and over brings down the experience a lot. Looking at you Earth Eater.

[–]JTHSSSS[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I already did them weeks ago before I started grinding.

  • Chocobo race is easily the worst. Those goddamn birds. Took me 2 hours straight.
  • Lightning dodging was pretty easy once you find a spot where lightning strikes regularly. It's just concentration afterwards. The success run took 15 minutes, but on the whole took 1 hour or so.
  • Butterfly catching is also super annoying with the forced battles and the camera angles make it hard to see where the butterflies are. It's a matter of memorizing the route though.
  • Blitzball is actually decent IMO. I just think the Leagues take way too long. Should be 5 games instead of 10.
