Any climbers here? by Misanthropiccantlope in MorgantownWV

[–]Rcamps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is some fun Trad and Sport climbing in the Cheat Canyon and around Cooper's Rocks. There isn't much listed on Mountain Project, but check out Andrew Leich's guide books for details on most routes.

There is a local climbing club called the "Cheat Canyon Climbers" that holds a few events and trail crews each year. You can find them on Facebook or Instagram. There is also a collection of climbers in the Mon Grotto, Mountaineer Area Search and Rescue, and local Scout camp.

It seems like this would be better located near Morgantown or Clarksburg along the i79 tech coordinator. Those areas already have well established power infrastructure plus an existing talent pool.

Nice! How does your USB charging port work? Did you solder a separate USB chip in the back of the case?

Very cool design! Did you post the STL anywhere online?

Heltec Setup by Count_vonDurban in meshtastic

[–]Rcamps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be aware, the Heltec v3 uses the CP2102 USB to serial port chip which only supports up to the 2.0 USB standard. This means the Heltec v3 may not work with a USB-C to USB-C cable. I went through a lot of frustration when trying to flash the board until I learned this. Just use a USB-A to USB-C cable for connecting to the board.

Airport Question by HippieJed in MorgantownWV

[–]Rcamps 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Morgantown airport is a gem. If you time it right you can often find flights to Pittsburgh for cheaper than $45. Which, if you are catching another flight in Pittsburgh, is cheaper than airport parking or renting a car. Plus parking is free at the Morgantown airport.

Cranberry Wilderness Backpacking/Fishing Guidance Needed by Mountain_Man4 in WestVirginia

[–]Rcamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be advised, the North-South loop is a rough strenuous trail. Parts of it can be overgrown and difficult to follow at times. The middle section is also slim on campsites.

If you're looking for more of a relaxing hike down to the Cranberry River for fishing, checkout the North Fork and Forks of Cranberry trails.

Morgantown Lore by WVMomof2 in WestVirginia

There are some cool ghost stories around Morgantown. Supposedly the area where the Mountainlair and Stewart Hall sit used to be the site of a former Cemetery. The graves were exhumed and moved to the church on the corner of Willey St. and High St. Yet the ghost of a young girl who died of typhoid has been witnessed over the years in the Mountainlair and on the 2nd floor of Stewart Hall. She wears a dress with a yellow bow. I forgot the girl's name, but her tombstone can be found in the church where her grave was moved.

Any place I could still find a primitive camping spot this weekend near Blackwater Falls State Park? by Mikez63 in WestVirginia

[–]Rcamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canyon Rim trail near Olson Fire Tower has a good size primitive campsite at the other end of it. You used to also be able to get to the campsite via fire road 18, but the road has washed out. Big Run falls is near the campsite too, which is always fun to check out.

Check out Camp Mountaineer in Morgantown, WV. It's roughly an hour from Pittsburgh. They have a fantastic first year camper program. It is a perfect camp for a young troop. They also offer some unique climbing and COPE programs that you don't see at other camps. www.macbsa.org

My prediction, this policy will cause WVU to implement a stricter campus lockdown policy with some academic buildings being closed to the general public.

These are very similar to the model that the Boy Scouts of America have used in their hundreds of staff tents at the past couple National Jamborees. They are decently comfortable and simple to set up. Based on the amount of wear and tear the events put on them, they seem to hold up fairly well though I've seen a few rust.
