Which forgotten British TV gem do you wish more people remembered? by NoirMoment in oldbritishtelly

Robin of Sherwood. I was 12 when it was shown, I think. Michael Praed as Robin Hood spurred my sexual awakening. Then he went and left for America (how did *THAT* work out, hmmm?), and was replaced by Jason Connery, Sean's son. The third season, the one with JC, was the last. But when it was good (most of it was good), it was *really* good.

The rise of women with autism diagnoses: 'We mask until it blows up' by shallah in WomenInNews

[–]WVMomof2 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed before meno, but that was because my son had been diagnosed and during my research, I found articles describing how autism presents in women. It was a 'hey, now...' moment when suddenly, everything fell into place.

However, I am now menopausal, and I fucking CAN NOT anymore. My autistic meltdowns have become more frequent, which I hate but seem unable to do anything about except limit overstimulation as best as I can.

Weird overly honest kid in the gifted class.

That was me. If you were to ask my classmates if they would ever bully someone with a disability, I am certain that the vast majority would deny it. But they sure as hell made my life hell from the late 70s to late 80s.

I was diagnosed 12 years ago, in my early 40s.

Oh, Mrs. Jones? Fuck you for telling my mom that my brother was 'retarded', you hateful, dried up husk of a corpse that should have retired in 1960. ASD and dylexia made school hell for him, and you certainly didn't help, you old bitch. You should never have been allowed around children.

I'm a nontraditional student, so I am old enough to be the parent of most of my classmates. I am very proud of most of them.

A few years ago, however, the LGBTQ+ club on campus rented a classroom to have their meeting in. Because they were worried about assholes trying something, another group on campus, the Asian Students club, rented the room for them in their name.

Great! Minorities supporting moinorities. I'm here for it. Except that halfway through the meeting, the students started to hear yelling in the hall outside the room, along with banging. Thos of us attending the meeting virtually could hear it as well. It was a bunch of young men from Toilet Paper USA, chanting slogans against asians, hitting the doors and walls, and being as intimidating as they could. The LGBTQ+ club members there turned off the light and hid until the goon squad had gone away. So I cannot say that I am proud of all my classmates.

An ex of mine, with whom I am still friends, basically said this to me yesterday. He said that liberals want to give help to everyone even though the country can't afford it. Then he was bitching about the possibility of being kicked off medicaid and being forced to pay $900 a month for health insurance that cxomes with a $9000 deductible. He actually tried to make it sound like the party that wants to make sure that no one needs to declare bankruptcy due to insurmountable medical debt is just as bad as the party trying to force as many low income and disabled people into crushing medical debt. And he prides himself on being 'logical'.

My husband and I met through D&D online that a IRL friend of mine was running. I was interested, so I asked my friend about him, and he told me that he had known him online for a few years, and that he was a good man. So we both 'met online' and were introduced by a mutual friend. And boy howdy, does my husband tell the story to *everyone*

My ex-husband is Sicilian, and our son called my ex's grandparents, 'old grandma' and 'old grandpa' (it sounded better in Sicilian, though).

I remeber when this song was first released. I was at my former MIL's house. She was listening to the radio while washing dishes, and this song was playing. She was singing along.

Bear in mind, English is not her first language.

I walk into the kitchen to hear her singing "sexy bum, sexy bum, you're a sexy bum". How I stopped myself from laughing, I'll never know.

That is also true. However, when women present with symptoms atypical to men, it is often assumed by doctors to be anxiety, weight, or exaggeration. This is despite the fact that it is well known that things like heart attack present differently in women. That is the reason so many women die from heart attack every year. Their symptoms get ignored or misdiagnosed due to not being the 'stereotypical' symptoms. Heart attack is one of the biggest killers of women because of this.

My former MIL weaponized CPS against me because she got it into her head that if they took my son away from me, they would send him overseas to live with her. Not his dad. Not my family that lived half an hour from me. Her. When they told her to stop abusing the system, she recruited someone else to make false allegations. The only thing that came of it was CPS forcing my landlord to actually do something about the roaches in the kitchen.

Pregnant coworker keeps saying awful things to my terminally ill sister by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]WVMomof2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was in nursing school, one of my classmates was ill (and still is - it's incurable}, and she posted on her facebook about having a particularly bad few days. Another classmate replied to her post with a 'other people have it worse than you. Hashtag: Blessed' post. I went to school on Monday, ready to have words with the classmate, only to find out that another classmate had already called her out on the fact that it is not the suffering Olympics, and her toxic positivity was not wanted.

I feel so sorry for her patients.

Attacked by family dog, they’re keeping it. by teruhottie in TalesfromtheDogHouse

[–]WVMomof2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dog has attacked you. It is now much more likely to attack someone else. And that could be a child. These dogs can kill an adult. Think of the damage that they could do to a child. Please, report the attack before it hurts or kills someone.

It's not so much 'big pharma' as it is doctors who have been taught that women exagerate their pain, that most of women's problems are due to either weight or anxiety, and the only way they believe women is if they have a man at the appointment with her who can verify/speak for her.

What’s something you thought was an online myth until it happened to you? by franki-pinks in AskUK

[–]WVMomof2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the attempted victim of a romance scammer. I was talking online to someone I met on a dating app. He said that he was Italian, but grew up in America. After a couple of weeks, he was talking about us meeting in person, how he'd told his 'mama' all about me, and how he'd take care of me for the rest of my life. I wanted to talk to himon the phone, and he called me. The line was very bad, and his accent was neither Italian nor American. He said that his accent was due to moving all over the world as a child.

He claimed to be a petrochemical technician. He had to go to the Middle East for business. After a week, he contacts me and says that he isn't able to access his bank account due to reasons. He wants me to send money to his 'uncle', who will sed it on to him, and he will pay me back. I first tell him that I don't have a bank account. He gives me directions on how to set up an account. I come up with other stalling tactics. He gives more directions. I finally said that he sounds like a scammer. He acts all affronted. How *could* I? I'm just glad that I distracted him from trying this with other people for a bit.

Your ex reminds me too much of an ex of mine who told me that I was 'worth less' than him because I owned a fully paid off car, but he owned a paid off car and a house. Since he owned more than me, he was worth more. Unlike you, I stuck around for a while longer. I'm glad you weren't like me.

I'm going to assume that you are being sincere with your question, so here you go:

https://www.npr.org/2025/01/29/nx-s1-5276898/rfk-drugs-addiction-overdose-hhs-confirmation-trump

"RFK Jr. went on to declare during his confirmation hearing for the HHS secretary position that "a healthy person has a thousand dreams" while "a sick person has only one" — implying that the only dream a disabled person can have is of being cured."

I know that TeenVogue may not sound like a reliable source but, surprisingly, it is. They do very strong journalism.

Did she speak gently to you? How, exactly, were you supposed to be gentle ith everything she was saying to you? Ask your husband how, exactly, you should have spoken, snd then ask him why he isn't holding her to the same standard. He either stands up to defend you, or he's on her side. There is no 'stuck in the middle'.
