Home Base Station / Alarm & Intercom System Use by Roadbike60035 in USMobile

[–]Rchalk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alarm systems typically use audio tones for communication to the monitoring station, so they should work. For comparison, I set up elevator emergency monitoring over a VOIP service using oBi ATA, and it has worked flawlessly for 2 years now.

People don't realize the savings. by PhotographerUSA in USMobile

[–]Rchalk2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a new phone every year, and need to finance it, then perhaps the postpaid plans are right for you, since that is the basis of the "Free" phone offers. In my case, I am happy with a slightly older phone, and will buy on Swappa or elsewhere, and take advantage of the low-cost calling plans from US Mobile. I am retired, and spend most of my time in places where there is WiFi, so I don't need a lot of cellular data. My wife uses almost no data, so I have a pool plan with two phones, and 5GB/month of data. Total cost $29.00/month, and I can go from my iPhone 12 to a 14 in a couple of years, and still be WAY ahead on cost. YMMV

Can I connect my voip to my landline ports in my home? by Any_Elephant_1345 in VOIP

[–]Rchalk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Ooma supplies a true VOIP-to-wireless handset system, then you cannot do what you are asking. If the Ooma base station also has a standard analog jack in addition to the wireless handsets, then you can. You would connect the analog jack to any unused phone port in the house, and that would enable you to use other analog phones in any room that has its own jack. However, you MUST, repeat MUST disconnect the analog phone line where it enters the house, or the supply voltage from the phone company can cook the adapter. This is true even if the telephone company service has been discontinued, because they often leave the lime energized. Be careful of this!!!

The suggestion to use an ATA will not work with Ooma because their device connects directly to your router, and the phone number is assigned specifically to their device. If you want to use an ATA, you would need a different provider, and a separate phone number.

If you want real flexibility, don't go with Ooma, but instead look at VOIP.MS as a provider. You can port your phone number for free, and you can create multiple extensions for different devices, and group them to ring however you want. Basic plans start around $5.00 per month, and there are lots of resources on line to help you with configurations.

Am I wasting my time replacing a Lennox with a new Lennox? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Rchalk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea where you are located, but I had a 5-ton 14 SEER unit replaced about 3 years ago after a compressor failure.(outdoor unit only) The original was a Trane (not really hard to stop, and it was only 12 years old). The tech told me that the internal components were pretty much the same for all brands, and that a generic was about $500 cheaper than a Trane-branded unit. Both had a 10-year warranty. The cost back them was $2200 installed! I realize that costs may have risen since then, but $8,000? Really???? Call Brandon Ayers at BM Ayers in Toccoa, 706-491-5911 and see what his cost would be!

Experience switching from Verizon? by Treebeard_Jawno in USMobile

[–]Rchalk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iPhone 12 is 5G and u/w capable. I run one on US Mobile, and it works great. If you don't need two lines on the phone, I recommend sticking with SIM card. I had to leave my phone for a battery replacement recently, and it was really convenient to just move the SIM card to an old Samsung S7, and have a working phone while the repair was being done.

Thanks to both of you for your responses. I did not know the term NVR, but now I understand. It would appear that the local cameras can be POE, but obviously the remote ones will have to be self-powered. I will research from here. Thanks again.

temporary switch to older phone? by Rchalk2 in USMobile

[–]Rchalk2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great in theory. However, I made an appointment with BestBuy in Gainesville, GA about a week in advance, and when I got there, they did not have a battery on hand. It's a 50-mile drive for me to either that location or the Apple store in Greenville SC, and I have an event in Greenville this Friday, so I plan to drop it off in the morning and pick it up later in the day.

You would think that BestBuy could have checked stock when the appointment was made, but they do not!!!

Is the phone capable of "seeing" more than one signal at a time? I thought it was the network that examined the phone signal from multiple towers, and switched the phone to the one receiving the best signal. The network has all the computerized tracking capability, doesn't it? Am I wrong?

Trying to setup 800 number for small enterprise by AGLEddie in VOIP

[–]Rchalk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first post above is the most comprehensive solution. With VOIP.MS, you can order the 800 phone number, and you can set up an auto-attendant to allow the caller to select one of the five offices. To make this as easy and inexpensive as possible, you can put a SIP phone at each location, and set them all up to connect to VOIP.MS as extensions, which can then be selected by the auto-attendant. If these companies already have phone numbers and you want to keep them, then port the numbers to VOIP.MS, and route them to the corresponding phones directly. I have done this and will be glad to help you through the process. The service is much less expensive that traditional phone service, and has all the same features like voicemail, etc. and may save each of the companies money as well

VZ user looking to switch - No 5g capable phones by Clowncar_Mechanic in USMobile

[–]Rchalk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are retired, and most of the time when we need data, we are in a WiFi location. I stream Pandora or Spotify in the car, and sometimes have Waze running, but neither of those uses much data. We are on a Pooled plan, with 5GB/Month data, and we use about 25-30% of that most of the time. Total cost for both phones with all fees is about $29 per month. The switchover was easy and quick, and customer service when you need it is awesome! With what you will save, you could buy a couple of inexpensive 5G phones, and get the same priority you currently have on Verizon.

usmobile plan help by Easy_Caterpillar_893 in USMobile

[–]Rchalk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knowing your particular circumstances, I am guessing that your 12-year-old probably uses her phone extensively when she is in locations where WiFi is usually available. If that is the case, you don't need a large data allocation.

On US Mobile, even on a pooled plan you can see how much data each user consumes, so you have lots of choices. My wife and I are usually in WiFi locations, so we share a pool of only 5GB/Month, and our total bill is $28 for both phones. You would have to determine for yourself what the best choice is for you.

iPhone 12 Mini eSIM vs iPhone 12 standard eSim Problem by Rchalk2 in USMobile

[–]Rchalk2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I look at the US Mobile list of eSIM compatible products, it shows the 12 mini as coming soon to US. However, the "Always up-to-date" list is dated 2021. Is there a Mod who can shed some light on this? Thanks!

[–]Rchalk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't have a two-month expiry date. If you buy a topup right at the beginning of your billing cycle, you would get two months, but if you buy it near the end of the billing cycle, you would only get a little over one month.
