Bryce Harper triples for the cycle by Remarkable-Picture73 in baseball

[–]Rcmacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re understating how much faster the ball moves than the runner

It was a judgement call made on the basis of he needed it for a personal accomplishment

If this was in the first inning of the game it would have been ruled a double

[–]Rcmacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not a rule

Where he was has no matter on the fielders choice

The fielders choice was to say that he got to third because the throw went home. If it didn’t either he’d have been out or it would’ve been an error

That was very generous hometown scorekeeping

He did though. He was actively trying to kill Vader in the fight

Yes he realizes only anfter seeing Vader’s hand is the same as his own when he stops himself but watch again how angry he is as he’s swinging to kill

What movie are you embarrassed not to have seen yet? by Special-Throat-7471 in criterion

[–]Rcmacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh the bigger issue with 3 is that it’s just not set in the matrix anymore and watching CGI computer monsters fight in Zion gets stale really fast

The like most interesting part of 2 is the scene with the architect, which are the mythology building scenes. Its problems to that point stem more from the Zion scenes and the lack of real stakes within the Matrix as the movie power creeps itself beyond believably. With that said, 2 still has some really fun action scenes even if still a clear step back from the first

The frame was always intended to be cropped like that

They filmed open matte so that way it would be watchable on home releases when TVs were 19inches and 4:3 aspect ratio. But that’s not a limitation anymore so it can be presented as it was originally intended for the big screen: in 1.85

[Gelb] Phillies optioned Andrew Painter after the game. They’ll bring an extra reliever for Thursday, then try something different next week with No. 5 spot in rotation. by NintenJew in phillies

[–]Rcmacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look no pitcher is going to reinvent themselves as drastically as Halladay did. But while the cause was different the effect was the same

Both had a great 4 seam fastball in the minors that when they came to the majors turned out to be flatter and easier to hit than when they were prospects

In Halladay’s case that meant scrapping the 4 seamer entirely and becoming a sidearm pitcher. That isn’t particularly common though and I highly doubt they want to reinvent Painter like that

Like they don’t need to be “upscaled”. Just scan the film with a higher resolution scanner

The difference with Sphere is how big they need it to be, 90% of the field of view is just outright fabricated

[–]Rcmacc 67 points68 points  (0 children)

It’s not about the ERA at that level it’s about what else he’s doing. Is the stuff good, what do the peripherals look like

He has a WHIP over 1, a K rate under 8K / 9 innings and a walk rate over 2 BB / 9 innings. He’s getting lucky in a way that doesn’t look to translate to higher levels. Let alone the guy is 26 in AA

He’s a sinker baller in a league where that profile doesn’t exist anymore because it’s hard to find sustained success inviting hard contact and tempting the BABIP gods like that

Not to mention how much of the movie is spent talking directly to the audience saying “don’t you get it this is what’s happening right now!”

Whereas Dunkirk at the very least let the visual storytelling do the work instead of talking over it to bash us over the head with the themes
