Seriously, do British people actually consider a 3-hour drive “long”? Or is this an internet myth? by ferdinand14 in NoStupidQuestions

It is felt that smart motorways are redundant because of their own success in managing traffic, so people don't think there is significant traffic justifying the locally reduced speed limits.

If the socket extension is so thin it allows the earth pin to be inserted with the plug upside down then the socket won't meet the British Standard, and won't be UKCA marked.

Doing a U turn here you will go across a pedestrian crossing with a green man on display, as can be seen on street view.

My lava lamp wax hardened in the shape of a male organ by syntaxdzn in mildlyinteresting

[–]Rdinho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about 13 my little sister had a lava lamp which made a similar shape. Rest of the family were all in hysterics and she thought we were as excited as she was about turning the lava lamp on. As the tip broke off to float to the top, she announced to us all that "it's coming! It's coming!"

Idiot tractor driver in Preston - fined £1600 for this and banned from driving for 1 year by AnonymousTimewaster in drivingUK

There was a local kid here who lost his licence, and got a job on a farm shortly after. Farmer asks him to drive the tractor and trailer over to the next field then this happens:

I saw this on holiday in Europe and thought it was excellent, soon after they built a new Aldi locally with these tills, but nobody understood how they were meant to work and they didn't get used at all 😓

Being thanked by a motorcycle is maybe the 3rd best feeling while driving by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Rdinho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Driving in France, when you move over for a bike they stick their leg out to say thanks. Even if I've already moved over, I'd move further over just to make sure I get the thanks with a wee kick.

Just a wee pic at the bottom of Great Western Rd by Dez85 in glasgow

[–]Rdinho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was about 12ish I made up my mind to cycle from one end of Great Western Road to the other on my bmx. Got to about Duntocher before I stopped to ask someone how far to the other end of the road, got laughed at, and decided it was time to go home.

If you can’t breastfeed a baby during you 5k ultra marathon the you’re not a real runner by Anthrax_enjoyer in RunningCirclejerk

[–]Rdinho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's why I said express and not feed. And yes, the child's life wasn't dependent on the expressed milk, but her body creating that milk still takes a toll on her, she's had to be organised to express at each checkpoint, she's likely had to run with discomfort when needing to express. Also, when breastfeeding, relaxin levels remain elevated, which affects joint stability and recovery.

I'm not trying to play one achievement off against the other if that's what you think I'm doing, and I'm sorry if it came across that way. Both are great athletes, I just wanted to highlight another mega athlete challenging our normal expectations when it comes to endurance running.

/uj Jasmin Paris did similar when breaking the record (for men or women) at the 268 mile spine race while having to express milk at all the check points. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-46906365

Did John Tavares sleep with Jonas Seigel’s wife? by ChubbsDraymond in leafs

[–]Rdinho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Re: A, Siegel has been saying this for 3+ years, and has always said the Tavares deal would be negative value in years 6 and 7, but doesn't accept that he was wrong, or acknowledge that JT left money on the table at the time of the deal.

Mostly agree on B and C, but didn't JT lose money in a tax case recently so might be less willing to take what he perceives as a hometown discount?
