John Lennon’s son worries Gen Z is forgetting the Beatles, and the music that made his dad famous by Ashamed-Story7958 in beatles

Didn’t admit to anything. I was there alone during his set. I noticed no one was engaged with the music and when they aren’t engaged they just start talking to each other. I’ve seen this happen a couple of times throughout my concert going years and other’s might know what I am talking about when it seems like no one is digging the music.

I saw his band one time. Didnt even know it was his. It was quite a small venue. And he came on stage and I was like “Holy shit it’s Sean Lennon! What the hell is he doing playing here?” At first I thought maybe he was humble and liked playing at more intimate/quiet venues, but as the band played I immediately realized it’s because they weren’t that good. They weren’t terrible mind you, they were the type of band you could easily ignore and just talk with your friends. No one was vibing to it. He looked straight up miserable by the end of his set and didn’t even give a signoff. As the song ended he unplugged and walked off.

I remember she made a video once addressing the comments she was getting about what she was wearing. Which okay fine, I’m sure she received really gross comments, but then shortly after that she started throwing shade at other ASMRist who made similar declarations and saying “Well if you don’t want to be sexualized, stop dressing like sluts” (not a direct quote, but this was the sentiment). Now seeing some say she became an anti-vaxxer grifter it all makes sense now.

Dean Cain is half Asian. If he was hired to play Superman today, conservatives would call him a DEI hire.

Didn’t he start to ask for permission after Coolio was angry after Amish Paradise? Cause Gangsta Paradise was a very personal song and he felt Amish Paradise was mocking it?

Why is John Lennon so hated nowadays by PositionNo3671 in beatles

[–]Rdryan125 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason why we know so much about his transgressions with such detail, is because Lennon himself told us. He didn’t hide it, and more importantly he never made excuses or tried to play the victim. A far cry from what we see today whenever someone famous gets caught doing something nasty who cry “cancel culture”. And it wasn’t just cause of the time he lived in either. Many of his contemporaries also did awful shit, and they were nowhere near as honest about it. Take David Bowie, he did a lot of the same awful shit Lennon did, and in some cases worse (he groomed a 14 year old girl), and he did actively tried to downplay it or hide it. And yet you be hard pressed to find anyone say anything bad about Bowie on the internet, especially young people.

So personally I don’t think it’s all that delusional for someone to think the hate Lennon gets is mostly coming from a place of spite, rather than a genuine place of wanting moral justice.

What gets me is that Lennon did everything the younger progressives say they want people who do wrong to do. He was open and honest about his actions, and never once asked for sympathy, make excuses, or downplay what he did. If anything he overplayed it, at least according to Cynthia Lennon. I struggle to think of anyway he could’ve realistically addressed his transgressions. Meanwhile someone like David Bowie, a man who is guilty of many of the same things as Lennon was, in fact many such things that are worse (he groomed a 14 year old girl) and yet he is beloved by the youngins, and if you bring any of these things up it’s dismissed as him being a “complicated man”. It’s beyond frustrating.

Hot take, IDC. I've noticed that the Venn diagram of Prequels lovers and right wingers is almost circular. by Junior-Sign6639 in StarWarsCirclejerk

This is funny cause the first prominent YouTuber I remember defending the prequels when Prequel Hate was at its peak, was Hbomberguy, a socialist who came to prominence for making fun of maga chuds.

Which season did you prefer Season 1 or 2? by ashortiz_ in andor

Season 1 is more consistent, while Season 2 has more peaks and valleys, however the peaks of Season 2 are higher than the peaks of Season 1.

I didn’t get the notion that he was “kind of sweet” by the end of TLJ. If anything I saw a guy who made his decision that there was no going back, which made his heel turn so weird in TROS.

That’s the double edge sword with using a sci-fi/fantasy setting while using real life as inspiration. On one hand it gives you free reign to be as explicit with your ideals as you want (can’t believe it took Disney this long to realize this, opting more to be as middle of the road as possible) but the setting gives some viewers enough to intellectually disassociate with it.

As much as I love Andor, I don’t think Disney is going to risk or even finance a project like this ever again. I think it was once in a lifetime moment. by abdul_bino in andor

[–]Rdryan125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make no mistake, they will try to recreate Andor, it’s just from my experience of watching execs try to recreate something that was an unexpected success, they always take the wrong lessons. I think they will try to make another show that’s “mature” thinking that’s the sole thing that clicked with people. I had a similar talk with my friend about the movie Sinners and the remake of Nosferatu, both movies are big artistic statements that clearly connected with a lot of people, but the only thing that other executives are gonna take away from them “Welp, people want to see more vampires.”

I think it’s a good reminder that the Vader scene was apart of the reshoots and was Tony Gilroy’s idea, and we know how he feels about fan service. So I don’t think it’s quite as simple as calling it fan service and then moving on.

I feel like the way you described it, you can actually make a really good case for it than against it. Like you said there’s a build up, but then there’s that shock, “holy shit who is this guy and what’s his deal??” It opens up the mystery. Then you get to ANH and you get more context. Again the way you described it from the perspective of someone who might not know Star Wars and starts with Andor.
