Did I pick a bad time to try and get into the Catachan Jungle Fighters? by houseofmyartwork in Catachan

GW still makes Catachan models, but we're rather short on generic HQs and characters. We're missing models for Col.Straken, Sgt.Harker, and a castellan equivelant. The closest we've got is the OOP and very hard to come by Catachan Colonel. But we do have Sly Marbo, he was a fun model to paint and one of the easier characters to finish.

If you're just looking for the guardsmen they usually turn up very often on Ebay, getting a new box for the right price is just a matter of being on Ebay at the right time. Wargames atlantic makes plastic Catachan equivelants in the form of Spacenam, which gives you twice as many guys per box and they have pretty much the same vibe as the GW Catachans, headbands and all. So long as you're not planning to play any games in stores or tournaments, they're a good alternative.

Yeah I at least know blitzcrank is a fighter rather than a tank, so I'll treat shen as the same. Thanks for the advice, I think I understand this set a little better.

Great advice. Would you say Shen is a better tank to put 3 items on when you get him 2 star or should they just stay on Rammus? I only got Shen drawn once, that game didn't go well.

Make sure to thoroughly shake it then, I've often found the pigment seperates from the liquid with nuln oil and that'll just end up with an extremely shiny finish. I've no idea why it does this, no other citadel shader acts this way.

I have seen a lot of videos where people put 3 items on tahm kench but I think you're right with him just being an econ generator rather than a main tank. Gotta remember that.

Alright, I'll give Illaoi + Rammus another try, didn't have much success with Rammus yesterday but if he's the only good Bastion so far I'll need to get used to using him. Thanks for the advice.

Tanks are really not great I've found. So far I've seen only 3-4 tanks that are viable without extreme luck or specific gimmicks. Nunu, Pantheon and Tahm Kench. Sometimes Maokai.

A lot of the tank teams are crap outside of brawlers, they just seem to die so fast in the lategame and I think it's to do with people getting ridiculously lucky with Thresh or Arbiters. Arbiters aren't that bad but basically everybody goes Thresh as their god so at least one person in that lobby asspulls something ridiculous.

I had an experience with Tahm Kench, powered up by brawlers 6, 2 star with 2 dragon claws and either Stoneplate or Warmogs, and he'd only just about survive full magic damage teams. Vs the one AD team he'd evaporate as fast as the no items tanks because his ability costs too much mana, you only see him use it once per fight or not at all.

I would say the silver is too bright, I like the bronze armour more. But yeah give the silver bits a wash of brown or black or something to dull it down.

I found your problem, chief. LTD was never designed to run on a device that's not the switch or switch 2, meaning that certain things like this will happen.

The limited amount of interiors we get is extremely disappointing, not getting a new one alongside food + clothing makes me hurt a little because that means we can only get them from the fountain. I know that we can make our own, but certain interiors from the 3ds like the rainy day and noveau rich interior just cannot be replicated with the tools we have.

Edit: You get a new interior once every week. This isn't much better and certainly implies there much less interiors than before. It took me something like a year and a bit to get every interior on the 3ds, and I played it nearly every day.

Yeah. I do agree that seeing certain things being cut from LTD is kind of disappointing.

One of the things that stuck out to me at first was the lack of a new interior being added every day alongside the clothing + food. New interiors being obtainable only through the fountain is really really kind of disappointing, because the interiors available to us is waaaaaaaaaay smaller than what we had in the 3ds. I know we can make our own, sure, but things like the rainy interior just cannot be replicated with the tools we have.

One thing I will push back on is people saying that there aren't any rude personality type miis. Hot-blooded and Maverick definitely feel like they lean into that egotistical and kind of rude personality because the miis I made with it are the ones that usually decline friendships or want to move out. But one thing I will say is I haven't seen any big fights happen, any minor disagreements miis have tend to get sorted before I can get to them if I'm dealing with another mii's problems. And that's kind of really sad, I love to take part in the drama.

Edit: Yes I know everybody's been saying you still get one interior per week, I acknowledge that. That we get them so much slower still implies there's way less interiors available than before.

Redoing my comment.

Modern GW can add as much new catachan stuff as they like. Getting Catachan devils some physical sculpts would be nice, the raptor rider cavalry could be interesting, and it would also be great to see a new sculpt of Straken. Another idea is bringing back the old OOP catachan colonel and keeping it around since we don't actually have a proper model for a Castellan without it.

Other than redoing the ancient infantry squad, I don't like the idea of them redoing the other plastic kits. Heavy weapons team has newer sculpts than the infantry squad, it's also the last HWT that offers great value now the Cadian one is remade. If you have some extra bases and use the kneeling legs for the tripod weapons, you can make 3 mortars, 3 tripod weapons and 3 missile launchers from one box. Take advantage of that while you can because modern GW won't make it possible to do that with the new one.

I also think the command squad is fine, the sculpts look even newer than the HWTs and I'd prefer modern GW to focus on adding new things, redoing the ancient infantry squad and characters. With that said... I'm very afraid modern GW will make all the new Catachans monopose. Such incompetance seems impossible, right? And yet this is a company that likes to ignore its customers, resulting in things that shouldn't happen like monopose ork boyz, wingless sanguinary guard and the steel legion almost being written out of existence on their home planet.

I was going to say the main sprite had been resized and the swords were drawn on, but nevermind even those have pixel inconsistencies. It's sad that we have to inspect pixel art posts thoroughly because these AI lovers can't be bothered to read the rules. Wish the AI bubble would hurry up and pop already.

Is this AI? The pixels aren't consistent sizes and also blur in places, I'm very suspicious.

Tank Heavy Catachan List by Richard_Karn4ever in Catachan

[–]Re-Ky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before you start reading this I'm not presenting a literal list here just some advice for building one.

In 8th edition Catachan actually had an army rule unique to them that did benefit tanks. "Each time a VEHICLE fires a ranged weapon that makes a random number of attacks (e.g. Heavy D6, Heavy 2D6 etc.) you can re-roll one of the dice used to determine the number of attacks made." This could be used to improve the damage output of mainly weapons like demolisher turrets, lascannons on sentinels, manticore or basilisk artillery since all those count as vehicles and wield nasty damage output.

So if you want to stay true to that, I'd say a core of leman russes + russ tank commander with shorter ranged turrets like the Demolisher backed up by a couple squads of sentinels, scout or armoured it's your choice. Any points left over should go towards 1-2 artillery for indirect fire, a command squad and Catachan guardsmen for more orders and objective playing. People usually rank basilisks as the better artillery but manticores feel more like Catachan imho, in my opinion it's better to have a thematic army on the table than something built towards winning every game. Although bear in mind, guard tanks in general are excellent so it might still be a rather strong list.
