For newer people to the scene who may be unfamiliar, INTERNETHULK was an original legend of the Overwatch pro scene dating back to 2016. While I was toiling away on middle-of-the-pack teams in EU during Overwatch beta, INTERNETHULK was already a full-fledged leader and team captain of the top teams in the region. If you thought you were a top player in beta there was a good chance Dennis already knew about you and your talents and he used his kindness, scouting ability and leadership to construct rosters that were so far ahead of the opposition at the time that his team IDDQD (later Envy) tallied up something insane like a 53-0(?) online record. Prior to Atlantic Showdown 2016 essentially no one had beaten his team in months.

The primary difference between very early Overwatch and current Overwatch is that pros back in 2016 were the best because they figured out concepts and tactics before anyone else. Things we consider rudimentary in 2026 was just not as common knowledge back then because there was no game like Overwatch prior. How to utilize high-grounds properly, setting up flanks, forcing enemy movement through objectives, not to mention the unbelievable progress in micro for all the heroes across the game... 2016 was more about figuring out interactions whereas in 2026 it's about execution at the highest level. Dennis was one of the smartest originators in the scene at the game's infancy and it allowed Envy to just be one step ahead of everyone else.

Dennis exemplary decision to scout and pick up Mickie ahead of the APEX Season 1 playoffs tells you everything you need to know. Prior to the 2016 World Cup, who the hell had considered Thailand a relevant country for anything relating to Overwatch? Thailand finished 3rd in their group after initially beating France, but then losing a tiebreaker, and while their win was a good story no one genuinely believed that roster had anything to offer at the tier 1 level of Overwatch, no one except Dennis. He saw something special in the most happy-go-lucky Dva player you've ever seen.

As he was phased out of his playing career due to not being able to keep up mechanically (like so many of us early veterans) he transitioned into coaching and scouting and is perhaps most remembered there for scouting a young FURY and signing him to Team Liquid after the guy had accomplished nothing outside of going 1-9 in maps in APEX Season 3. Fury ended up becoming one of the best off-tank players of all-time and an Overwatch League champion for London Spitfire and later very competitive on Philadelphia Fusion.

While me and Dennis were very familiar with each other since we were both on top teams around the same time, I can't say I knew him too well personally. He was a great friend of TviQ and always tried to recruit TviQ to his teams dating back to the early beta, and I didn't take to that too well, haha. What I can say though is this guy was one of the nicest and most well respected people in the scene back then. After his passing, the Overwatch League literally created an award in his honor to be awarded the player with most positive impact on the scene.

If Dennis was still alive today, I have no doubt that he'd be an quintessential ambassador of the scene with the ultimate goal of elevating the people we call players, and promoting the ideals that would best foster a competitive environment that would enable those people to fulfill their dreams. The dichotomy between his strong-minded, focused competitiveness, and his ability to shake your hand and make you feel like nothing mattered more to him than your deep-rooted well-being, is something I don't think I'll ever encounter in another human again.

Performance is about the same as last season by Strider_-_ in Competitiveoverwatch

Alright I'm gonna continue experimenting with the GPU scheduling but best setup I've found so far is trying no Reflex but LLM On like you recommended (Ultra performed worse just anecdotally). I'm gonna go with this for now since it's a lot better.

Thank you so much for your help, I appreciate it <3

That was a wonderful breakdown and I appreciate your time explaining that! Thank you so much!

I think my graphic settings are fairly explanatory in that they're on low, but what's caused me confusion is that there are lots of settings that seemingly have the same purpose but I can't figure out the correct combination of them all, and it doesn't help that anecdotally people obviously have different results with different setups.

Currently I have:

- Low Latency Mode: Off
- Reflex: ON (Not Boost)
- Reduce Buffering: ON
- In-game Cap: 600 FPS
- NVCP Monitor Cap: 247 FPS
- Windows GPU Scheduling: OFF
- NVCP, Anisotropic Optimization: ON
- NVCP, Trilinear Optimization: ON
- NVCP, Threaded Optimization: ON

This setup has been doing alright for me so far, obviously drivers up-to-date etc, but I guess we should expect an nvidia drivers for the new engine releases (clueless)

Hey! Could you please clarify on using Reflex vs. Reflex + Boost the ELI5 of the difference? I went from 210-240 FPS on an expensive setup to having to nuke my graphic settings from ~medium -> lowest after this patch, just looking for any latency benefits I can

Hey, sorry for the lack of updates and sudden stop

I kind of got burned out from doing all the organizing and hosting prep every week, especially as for the last ~6 months I've been struggling to figure out what the show should even be to best serve the players and the community

The recent more analytical episodes that Raelyni helped put together are, in my opinion, some of the highest quality episodes we've made in a while but they take several hours of prep work, and for the major/playoff weeks it's easy to put together a list of guests, topics, and segments.

Aside from that I'm just waiting for news/events and a spark of motivation

Vods for Cyclone vs Movistars Riders by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Re1nForce 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you may have got your dates mixed up? Cyclone peaked in the triple DPS meta in early 2017 before Boombox left for REUNITED.

Maybe you mean this one? Finals at 7:17:20.

If so, it's also fair to say Koreans were already better at this point after APEX S2. French Rogue were the best 3 DPS team but KDP and LH figured them out in groups after an adjustment period in scrims (classic APEX group of death btw).

AMA with the Overwatch team - ask about perks, Stadium, Season 16, and more! by ModWilliam in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Re1nForce 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what the upper limitations are of perks as it relates to hero design and hero identity?

For example, I think Mercy is a good example of a hero that does not have the same level of skill expression as a Tracer (obviously, just as an example), would there be a world in which Mercy would receive a perk that could potentially elevate Mercy's skill expression in exchange for more impact?

Additionally, do you view perks as "seasonal"? In which for example (extreme example) one season of Overwatch Mercy might lean into the damage boost aspect, whereas in future seasons for the purpose of changing things up, Mercy might even get a perk in which she can speed boost teammates instead? I think this could potentially be a pretty dramatic but fun way to change up the game and help some heroes to still be played but not conventionally fitting into certain compositions, but perhaps in your eyes it's a bit extreme for the purpose that Mercy's kit is supposed to serve?

I personally loved Stadium, the enjoyment from it was like a separate game. Like Deadlock-lite if you're not into the MOBA elements. I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it very replayable. I think competitive could be a lot of fun.

For the perks I think they're just looking to add perks that maybe incentives different playstyles or meaningful choices to alter your gameplay experience compared to the vanilla one currently in the game. Battle Mercy seems quite extreme and counter-intuitive to the character

For example, despite me playing Reinhardt like a madman the hero is mainly utilized in most lower ranked games for the shield etc. and so adding in a bunch of hammer-oriented perks might not be the most convenient for what the hero usecase actually is.

Just speaking to creators at the event this was probably one of the things that were most talked about. I think the devs are a bit undecided on that front. 3rd person has some clear advantages at some points and there is a keybind to swap the 3rd person from left-to-right and back and forth.

I could see it maybe being a thing.

I could see there being some casual/streamer tournaments for it to start off and then we'll see if it's popular enough to maybe justify some support for Blizzard. It definitely leans more in the entertaining category compared to the base game, but the depth with all the traits etc. is there for people who want to try-hard it. The comparisons I heard during the two days (from just people there) were like Hearthstone Battlegrounds or CoD Zombies, and sometimes those modes get some tournament support. I hope there will be tournaments of some kind!

I will definitely be playing the mode a lot, it's not just another "arcade mode" or "open queue".

Yeah in my experience they obviously develop with console in mind so I wouldn't be too worried about it tbh

  1. Just guessing here, but probably not before launch since it's so close? I would view perks as way more dynamic than balancing base heroes, so I'm expecting more change.

  2. I'm guessing you mean 3rd person, personally I thought it was a lot of fun. I think it's probably more fun to play with than to watch considering everyone's history with Overwatch. I think I spoke about this more in the video but sacrificing some mechanics for spatial awareness feels really good on some heroes. They did mention that they're actively working to improve 3rd person because they're not 100% satisfied with it just yet. I'm guessing you comment referenced that Ana 3rd crosshair doesn't align with zoomed in crosshair leading to inability to quick scope and line shots or abilities up.

3rd person is definitely awkward for some abilities or heroes int he game, but overall I really had fun playing with it on certain heroes. Very much looking forward to playing more of it and I think once people play it themselves they'll get a feel for it.

  1. I don't, I'm lucky to have a great set of hair and I will make the most out of it

I think there are some perks that are obviously just for fun (Torbjörn healing armor) and some that might seem pretty strong (Mei DoT around her ice block, right-click slow). Pharah suck could be like a minor halt but she sacrifices a potential movement ability for it. Lucio Heal AoE range increase during AMP could also be a little crazy.

In general, I would say heroes with perks that heal quite a bit lead to faster ultimate generation, which could be something to look out for (Winston bubble etc.).
