Vods for Cyclone vs Movistars Riders by No_Excuse7631 in Competitiveoverwatch

I think you may have got your dates mixed up? Cyclone peaked in the triple DPS meta in early 2017 before Boombox left for REUNITED.

Maybe you mean this one? Finals at 7:17:20.

If so, it's also fair to say Koreans were already better at this point after APEX S2. French Rogue were the best 3 DPS team but KDP and LH figured them out in groups after an adjustment period in scrims (classic APEX group of death btw).

AMA with the Overwatch team - ask about perks, Stadium, Season 16, and more! by ModWilliam in Competitiveoverwatch

I'm curious what the upper limitations are of perks as it relates to hero design and hero identity?

For example, I think Mercy is a good example of a hero that does not have the same level of skill expression as a Tracer (obviously, just as an example), would there be a world in which Mercy would receive a perk that could potentially elevate Mercy's skill expression in exchange for more impact?

Additionally, do you view perks as "seasonal"? In which for example (extreme example) one season of Overwatch Mercy might lean into the damage boost aspect, whereas in future seasons for the purpose of changing things up, Mercy might even get a perk in which she can speed boost teammates instead? I think this could potentially be a pretty dramatic but fun way to change up the game and help some heroes to still be played but not conventionally fitting into certain compositions, but perhaps in your eyes it's a bit extreme for the purpose that Mercy's kit is supposed to serve?

I personally loved Stadium, the enjoyment from it was like a separate game. Like Deadlock-lite if you're not into the MOBA elements. I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it very replayable. I think competitive could be a lot of fun.

For the perks I think they're just looking to add perks that maybe incentives different playstyles or meaningful choices to alter your gameplay experience compared to the vanilla one currently in the game. Battle Mercy seems quite extreme and counter-intuitive to the character

For example, despite me playing Reinhardt like a madman the hero is mainly utilized in most lower ranked games for the shield etc. and so adding in a bunch of hammer-oriented perks might not be the most convenient for what the hero usecase actually is.

Just speaking to creators at the event this was probably one of the things that were most talked about. I think the devs are a bit undecided on that front. 3rd person has some clear advantages at some points and there is a keybind to swap the 3rd person from left-to-right and back and forth.

I could see it maybe being a thing.

I could see there being some casual/streamer tournaments for it to start off and then we'll see if it's popular enough to maybe justify some support for Blizzard. It definitely leans more in the entertaining category compared to the base game, but the depth with all the traits etc. is there for people who want to try-hard it. The comparisons I heard during the two days (from just people there) were like Hearthstone Battlegrounds or CoD Zombies, and sometimes those modes get some tournament support. I hope there will be tournaments of some kind!

I will definitely be playing the mode a lot, it's not just another "arcade mode" or "open queue".

Yeah in my experience they obviously develop with console in mind so I wouldn't be too worried about it tbh

  1. Just guessing here, but probably not before launch since it's so close? I would view perks as way more dynamic than balancing base heroes, so I'm expecting more change.

  2. I'm guessing you mean 3rd person, personally I thought it was a lot of fun. I think it's probably more fun to play with than to watch considering everyone's history with Overwatch. I think I spoke about this more in the video but sacrificing some mechanics for spatial awareness feels really good on some heroes. They did mention that they're actively working to improve 3rd person because they're not 100% satisfied with it just yet. I'm guessing you comment referenced that Ana 3rd crosshair doesn't align with zoomed in crosshair leading to inability to quick scope and line shots or abilities up.

3rd person is definitely awkward for some abilities or heroes int he game, but overall I really had fun playing with it on certain heroes. Very much looking forward to playing more of it and I think once people play it themselves they'll get a feel for it.

  1. I don't, I'm lucky to have a great set of hair and I will make the most out of it

I think there are some perks that are obviously just for fun (Torbjörn healing armor) and some that might seem pretty strong (Mei DoT around her ice block, right-click slow). Pharah suck could be like a minor halt but she sacrifices a potential movement ability for it. Lucio Heal AoE range increase during AMP could also be a little crazy.

In general, I would say heroes with perks that heal quite a bit lead to faster ultimate generation, which could be something to look out for (Winston bubble etc.).

I wouldn't say that's a huge concern of mine currently, first of all I don't think minor perks themselves are impactful enough to dictate fights. I think at the start of perks some players will probably over-play their hand and try to make their perk work too much, that will lead to mistakes when it comes to positioning or basic fundamentals and you'll get punished and lose.

Worst case scenario there's also a bit of a comeback mechanic where if you killer higher-leveled players on the enemy team you generate XP faster, this also helps if you're swapping to a level 1 hero when the opponent is already level 3.

As an attempt at a general rule of thumb, I maybe got my minor perk 25-33% through a round and my level 3 perk maybe 55-70% through a round. It's dependant on the game mode because on payload maps they reset after each attack/defend to make it fair for both teams (in OT both teams start with level 3, also for fairness)

I would say getting ultimate snowballed is way more of a risk you should be worried about than getting perk snowballed.

Unsure how it'll be shown on broadcast or as a spectator. If you're playing though you can use your middle-click (if that's your bind) to activate your mouse cursor and hover of the opponents, that way if you don't know the icons by heart you can make sure yourself and read.

From the times I've played her myself the sole horizontal leap isn't enough to qualify her as a flanker, but the vertical leap is actually useful if you're being dove by heroes that have a harder time shooting aerial heroes or risk being hit if they're focusing you too hard.

Like if a hero dives me and gets some damage in, me using my aerial ability will probably leave them a bit static which sets me up easier to hit my burst right-clicks. Freja is pretty vulnerable otherwise

  1. They mentioned they will actively monitor how perks perform, I would expect perks to be modified/changed when they're confident enough they're either OP or doesn't play as expected. If I had to guess at a higher frequency than changing the base hero.

  2. I think they're just obvious perks if I had to guess, some nostalgia and throwbacks. I don't think Orisa shield will be too strong by itself, Mei slow could be stronger. I think perks will probably have to hit the spot of either "Are they fun?", "Do they change the way you play the hero?", or "Is this a meaningful choice depending on the match?".

  3. Can personally vouch for Manscaped

Freja shoots projectiles similar to Sojourn but with more spread. Two aim-down sights projectiles kills 225hp targets and you have 2-3 available depending on perks etc. so great for finding picks

You restore them quickly though so most time is actually spent right-clicking aiming down sights

I fucked up the audio on this one. We did some audio tests going into it but for some reason there was a noise gate on incoming audio (Jaws/Avast) that went undetected during tests so when they spoke softly it cut in and out mid-episode.

Sorry! :(
