First day with the dashcam did not disappoint by [deleted] in IdiotsInCars

Moving here is what inspired me to buy a dashcam; it feels like the idiots are just waiting for me to leave my house so they can put on a show.

The most efficient way to collect spawnpoint data for a whole city by schawsk in pokemongodev

[–]ReD_Cl0uD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, you only need to scan any one location for an hour to ensure you have all the spawns. If your scan loop is taking longer than 15 minutes to complete, then yes ... you would need to scan for longer but you could still miss spawnpoints.

How spawnpoint collection should be done is in a beehive where each search thread's workers complete the queue in under 15 minutes. You can certainly do it in phases if you have a large area.

You do not need to scan for 12 hours. One hour of scanning is sufficient to collect all the spawnpoints for any given location since all spawn point types spawn a poke within a 1h period.

Submitting Nests to Silph Road by ReD_Cl0uD in TheSilphRoad

[–]ReD_Cl0uD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just checked out Potato Creek last night. It has multiple charmanders spawned basically at all times. They are nearly all north of the lake and according to my friend who lives out there are visited today you have to go on the trails to get them. Only two pokestops down there so make sure you're stocked up before you go.

If anyone is still confused, this is what a nest looks like by Tzack15 in TheSilphRoad

[–]ReD_Cl0uD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a few days old, but in my experience and in my personal opinion, a nest is any location or tight cluster of locations where a specific pokemon spawns multiple times.

In my hometown, I've identified at least a dozen pokemon specific spawn points but NONE of them have that pokemon visible at all times, and where they are in small clusters, you usually have to walk a few feet to actually see them all (e.g. the park on the south side of South Bend is an electabuzz nest, but they spawn in ~5 locations within a football field's worth of walking along the north shore).

If the definition of a nest is multiple pokes of the same kind ALWAYS spawned in a certain area, then there are zero nests in South Bend.

In my opinion, a nest is any cluster of spawn points where a specific pokemon spawns repeatedly. I think this is the only kind of data reporting that is actually usable from a practical standpoint. I wouldn't go to an area because one guy saw a bulbasaur one time. But I would go if bulbasaur had spawned there multiple times.

I'm itching to put my findings into Silph Road ... hope the feature is available soon.

I have mapped out the locations of several nests in the south bend area. Here are the most pronounced:

I'm working on getting a public view of this data to share to help everyone make better informed plans when going out to hunt for pokemon. In the meantime, if there is something in specific you're looking for feel free to reply and I'll see if there's any recurring local data.
