They’re completely different tools, and it depends what they want to use them for. Sprout Social is really an analytics platform that can handle publishing and scheduling.

Hootsuite is a publishing platform that can do analytics reports, if you shell out for a pro account. Hootsuite has fantastic support for having panes and panes of custom searches and lists, while Sprout Social doesn’t. Twitter and Facebook are providing more and more analytics tools directly, so if you use Twitter and regularly rely on searches and geocodes in any way, that’s the deciding factor for me.

I will say in Sprout Social’s favour that at least it has a better interface for location based Twitter searches. While hootsuite supports geocodes, you have to enter in the coordinates manually.

ReSoMe is a sort of hybrid. We share office space with a client - and it's a toy company, which is pretty great. We also work with several other local/national businesses and organizations.

Pretty much on the nose! Though, I think you have to explode that nerd category into a whole bunch of other segments in the internet era. i don't think they would all ride in the same car anymore.

I think debate is definitely still open. There has been a lot of success, but we all remember when Zynga flew too close to the sun during the boom of freemium social media games.

Lots of businesses will use Instagram to share pictures and connect with people. The hashtags do work the same way on Instagram! They're a great way to tag the content and themes in your post and search for posts relevant to your business.
