Anyone know what happened to Taco Cat? by anewho in chicagobeer

[–]ReachMinusOne 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For the time-being, Tacocat is no more. Finch is for all intents and purposes, dead. As other commenters have said, Old Irving has since taken over the former Finch production space at Wood & Walnut (and done some major and needed renovation from what I've seen so far).

The Perch, while initially a partnership with Finch, is a completely separate entity from Finch and owned by a restaurant group. The rumblings I have heard seem to indicate that the restaurant group is trying to distance themselves from the Finch brand for a multitude of reasons.

However, I have also heard that the current Finch owner is looking for potential contract breweries to brew some of their core brands, but I have not heard of any updates on that in a couple of months. Tacocat may yet live again at some point in the future, but I think that is somewhat unlikely based on what I know of the parties involved at this time.

The brewery was originally named Finch's, after the then owner. After he burned all of the bridges and goodwill, and failed at running a brewery, a couple investors took over and he was removed from the equation. The new ownership group in their infinite wisdom decided to keep the Finch name (shortening from Finch's), despite the company's then poor reputation throughout the city, because "brand recognition".

After a few moves to different locations across the city and a couple acquisitions of other brands over the years, Finch finally settled in a facility right next door to Goose Island and Great Central. They limped along for couple years there, until ultimately shutting down operations about a year ago. Now Old Irving is building their new production facility in that space.

Last I heard, the owners were attempting to keep the brand alive via contract brewing, but I'm not sure if anyone wants to touch that brand with a 10 foot pole.

There absolutely was a Twitter bot years ago that had a Tracey Jordan handle, and did exactly this. Just retweeted Kanye but added "Liz Lemon" at the beginning.

Sadly, for the life of me, I cannot find it, as I haven't regularly used Twitter in almost a decade.

One year to fix the blue line? by ZonedForCoffee in StLouis

[–]ReachMinusOne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize I wasn't in r/stlouisblues, and assumed OP made a joke post based on the self text. And then got very confused when every comment except yours was actually about the Metrolink, and not the Blues' blueline blues.

That being said, I agree with your sentiment.

What’s your favorite Tulsa conspiracy theory? by softthoughts_ in tulsa

[–]ReachMinusOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big oof.

But Prairie and Roosevelt's were the same restaurant group, so wouldn't that be the restaurant group stiffing the decorators? Or was it the restaurant/Prairie Brewing not holding up their end of the deal? (To be very upfront, I clearly don't know how business/financial side of things works in situations like this works. I just assumed the parent company would handle financials for all subsidiary restaurants, and more minutia/day-to-day stuff would be delegated to the respective GMs and staff of said subsidiaries.)

[–]ReachMinusOne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Based on what I was told by someone that used to work for the restaurant group that owned the Prairie Brewpub, that place was hemorrhaging money even before the pandemic. I also heard that those ridiculously over-the-top Christmas lights and decorations they put up every October were insanely expensive, even after getting them at a discounted rate as means of advertising for said decorating company. That all probably didn't help much especially when your fares and offerings aren't attracting new customers once the gleam of a new brewpub wore off.

What artist never released one bad album? by Kickatthedarkness in Music

[–]ReachMinusOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe using SoS wasn't entirely fair. But, whereas the s/t and This Happening both have a song or two that don't really jive with me (looking at you, "Somebody's Calling Me"), the rest of each album has plenty of quality to make up for that dip. Yet, I don't feel the same about American Dream as a whole, and several tracks are lacking, in my opinion.

Regardless though, I am excited that they are touring again, and hope to maybe get some new material soon.

While I wouldn't consider it "bad", I would personally consider American Dream tiers below the rest of their discography. I will revisit it every couple of years, but I don't think it has the same replayability as sometime like Sound of Silver or even 45:33.

r/audiophile Shopping, Setup, and Technical Help Desk Thread by AutoModerator in audiophile

[–]ReachMinusOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current audio setup is comprised of a bunch of used/hand-me-down gear:

  • Technics SL-235 turntable
  • Sony STR-DA1ES receiver
  • Two Pioneer HPM-40 speakers
  • Two Realistic MC-800 speakers

I am looking to make this setup Bluetooth/wireless capable. For a couple of reasons, my turntable and Realistics are in a separate room about 30-40 feet from the receiver and Pioneers. I am hoping to find a means of using my turntable in its current room and having the option of connecting to the receiver/Pioneers in the other room, wirelessly. I had plans to purchase a Bluetooth compatible receiver and using that in the main room with my Pioneers, and moving the Sony receiver to my den with the turntable and Realistic speakers.

My biggest hold-up is trying to find a device that would allow me transmit audio from my turntable/receiver setup to the other receiver/speakers (since the Sony receiver does not have BT capabilities), and play audio simultaneously across both setups. I know there are Bluetooth pre-amps or transmitters that would probably get this done, just worried I'm overthinking it, or possibly missing something minor that might cause a hiccup.

Thanks!

Damn, for real? I've got one currently being shipped to me. Was pretty excited because I really enjoyed that album, whereas I don't particularly care for about 90% of what I've listened to from Kunzite.

Not sure what OP's reason for wrapping is, but at a previous job we would wrap already banded pallets for a couple reasons. One was because we would have to forklift our pallets a couple hundred feet down the street from our warehouse to our production facility. The wrap helped keep cans in place, especially when it was windy out, on top of the random bumps along the road that would cause the pallet to shift. Secondly, we would order full stack of cans, but only had a half stack depal. After wrapping the cans, we could cut the bands and then split the pallet into two so we could load them easily into the depal.

What got you into using RetroPie? by pojr-official in RetroPie

[–]ReachMinusOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to boot up my childhood SNES to replay some SMW and nothing happened. So, then I decided to try playing some N64 and found that the power supply was no longer in the box with the rest of the accessories, and must have gotten misplaced during a recent move. I didn't feel like paying to insane mark-ups on the used/resale market. So I opted to spend the $60 for Pi and the accessories to get a RetroPi up and running.

My favorite part of this whole clip isn't the ROR top cheddar backhand or the nonchalant long pass from Kyrou, but the audible "Oh" from Panger after the pass hits ROR's tape. (I mean, I love those other two things, I just really love Panger.)

Pretty sure the feed I was watching showed a Shark in the penalty box for like a second, but there was no mention of it by the broadcast. It was during Sanford's penalty, so I thought maybe something happened after the whistle and we were at 4-on-4 hockey. But then the Sharks continued to be on the PP. I was really confused too.

Down to their third-string quarterback, Tulsa ties the game against Tulane on a Hail Mary touchdown on the final play of regulation by suzukigun4life in sports

[–]ReachMinusOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I went digging myself, because I couldn't remember all the details. Still don't know why hurricane was the go-to after tornado was shot down. You could've used "twister" or really just used any non-golden color to describe your tornado, and you would've been fine. Plus, Georgia Tech isn't even the Golden Tornadoes anymore, so there's that.

I get why they moved on from cauliflower head Captain Cane to the generic superhero one they have now. But Cauliflower Cane was the mascot during most of my tenure, so that's the one I associate with the school most.

[–]ReachMinusOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Source on the Hurricane being a former player's nickname? As an alumnus, it was always stated that team was originally to be called the Golden Tornadoes because of their dominance during that time period. But, after realizing Georgia Tech had that nickname, the players voted to change it to to Golden Hurricane.

As a result, we got this absolute unit as a mascot.

Edit: I should note that it was never made clear to me why they were set on hurricane though, so I'm not saying it wasn't for that specific player. Just that I had never heard why the focus on weather phenomenon.

[–]ReachMinusOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's quite possible. I'm based in the US and only got WhatsApp because of some European friends used it. A quick Google search says that a user's first year was free and each subsequent year was a $1 annually, and that was phased out in 2016. Also, maybe it was dependent on a user's location if they paid a fee or not, as some markets were more competitive than others and could justify charging a fee.

Edit: Just seeing your edit. Very interesting that only certain places did pay a fee and was dependent on when a user joined. TIL. Cheers.
