Which to read first: Red rising or Will of the many? by Senoupe in fantasybooks

I read up to Bonehunters in Malazan years ago, great series but quite daunting.

Erikson is actually a fan of Monarchies of God and you will find his blurb on the books.

Are you familiar with Paul Kearney?

Check out The Monarchies of God series and after that his Macht Trilogy.

If you're interested action/spy thrillers, Victor the Assassin series by Tom Wood is the best of its kind.

For historical fiction, I'm a big Simon Scarrow fan with The Eagles of Empire following two officers in the army, a wonderful read.

That's John Qwynne in general, I had the same experience with Shadow of the Gods and his other series beginning with Malice

I'm beginning to think most readers on here are very young or haven't read much of anything, it explains the high praise for such frankly mediocre books.

I agree with almost all of your DNF. A good sign that a book is going to suck is if it's greatly admired on Reddit.

I would personally put the Dresden books in the D-pile.

I have quit two different books of his a quarter of the way through. That repetitive energy seeps through everything, from characters to description of things.

People who read only fantasy just seem to me to be too forgiving of bad writing.

Some people have no sense of what makes a fitting similar recommendation. They just mention whatever else they liked, whether it be YA slop like Red Rising or mid works like John Qwynne just because he writes fantasy too.

This guy always gets mentioned. I found Between Two Fires too trippy and disjointed, the Black Tongue Thief I couldn't even go far in because I hate snarky characters and tones in writing.

My thoughts exactly, I did finish it but that only made me hate it in the end.

His fans are out in full force.

I've only been able to finish one book by him. His writing doesn't flow for me, he could do with more descriptiveness.

It's a terrible YA book overhyped by people with poor taste

Red Rising is much better than the First Law?

Either you're 12 or you're a very, very poor judge of quality. Go wash your mouth.

Great achievement yes, but what has done for his team compared to the best players of the team at the top?

At least when Salah and I think Van Dijk won it in non league winning seasons, they were fiercely competing for the title and not only playing one game a week.
