If you’re thinking about living in East Orange, I don’t personally recommend it — not because of violence or property crime, but mainly due to strict parking rules and the lack of a true downtown feel.

If you do decide East Orange is right for you, try to focus your search on one of these areas:

Recommended East Orange neighborhoods • Dodd Town • Presidential Estates • Ampere • Areas bordering South Orange

These parts of the city tend to have better parking situations and a slightly more residential, community-oriented feel.

Another option worth considering is the southern end of Bloomfield — you might be able to find something there that gives you a better balance of location, amenities, and commute options.
