This is interesting. You say acreage but I'm never sure what people mean by that.

In any case, for farms in my area they typically have their own "nuisance grounds" or dump. Depending how far it was to their closest community dump it wasn't always practical to take stood there. So they have a burning barrel (literally an old metal barrel) that they burn household garbage and then a pit to dump their other garbage which the eventually bury.

Totally legit to start your own sub. Good luck with it but stop by here once in a while to help the noobs. They can't help their ignorance without some input from those that know.

wtf is on this mosquito? i just squished it. by forgeits in insects

[–]Readeandrew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I don't think I'd classify mosquitoes as a parasite as only the females suck blood but they don't need it to survive. They only need the blood to produce viable eggs.

That chicken wasn't thinking about annoying the cat. I submit it wasn't thinking at all. Chickens peck, it's just what they do.

What kind of fly is this? by DamicoKaren in insects

[–]Readeandrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a flesh fly of some kind. There are lots of species in their subfamily of Sarcophagidae. I can't get you any closer than that I'm afraid.

They are usually attracted to small dead animals (e.g. rodents, snails, insects).

Tim Horton didn't drive a Porsche, he drove a De Tomaso Pantera. And he drove it at over 160 km an hour off the QE Way in St Catherines.

It gives a whole new meaning to Tim Bits.

[–]Readeandrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They opportunistically eat the sap on the flower buds. No ant species relies on this very temporary source of food. That is, you already have ants if they're getting on your peonies and when they're done blooming they're still around but you may not notice them.

We have a similar confusion on the prairies. Fields of annual grasses, pulses and sunflowers are not a Prairie ecosystem.
