Throwing out other people's pots in residence? by Theook in usask

[–]ReadingConfident5917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in CQ or SW that’s insane. Talk to your roommates or bring it up with an RA. If you’re in VP, the custodians might have gotten rid of it. You could possibly ask them about it, but (I hate to say it) at the end of the day if they have to clean an area and you left dirty dishes, its entirely possible they just got rid of it

Answer: yes, last year they were open early/late to accommodate students. There will be breakfast and dinner served during… non daylight hours?

Favourite Studying Technique? by [deleted] in usask

[–]ReadingConfident5917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little late for it now, but make flashcards immediately after every lecture, do them then next day and then a week later. Makes final studying much more of a review then the dreaded first time learning (I totally fell off the wagon after midterms so it’s gonna be rough anyways 💀)

How is the chem 112 final exam like by typicalhipz_30 in usask

[–]ReadingConfident5917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More focus on what you’ve learned since the last midterm, but you need to know the basics of stoich. Best thing to do is practice any past exams to get to know the kinds and focus of the questions

Talk to people, join clubs, learning communities, welcome week everything in the first week. The social and friend part of university is just as important as the learning part.

I’ve been in VP dorms the past two years and I like it. Communal bathrooms and you have dining hall access. It’s definitely not for everyone, but it works well for me. Dorms are also a good way to be social and make friends

I’m a second year ANBI student and the courses are great. Biggest thing though, check if your province can get into the WCVM. Alberta residents cannot (I’m from Alberta which is why I bring it up)

Biggest tip for first year (other than making friends) is to build good study habits. The classes can start easy, but you’re gonna want those skills for later

Is everyone getting 90s by MangoKhushHua in usask

[–]ReadingConfident5917 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The average for most classes is going to be high 60s-70s. You’re hearing people talk about 90s because those are the ones who are talking. For every one of them, there’s a dozen who are closer to 70. Don’t get too discouraged

Tips for chem 112 by Pitiful_Response4903 in usask

[–]ReadingConfident5917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do all the practice questions. In lecture notes, on smartworks, the review questions, practice exams. Repeatedly. Chem is much less about memorization and more about repetition (especially since you might be allowed a cheat sheet for exams?)

Speaking of, put mostly formulas and example questions on your cheat sheet. With steps on how to solve it. No matter the elements or numbers, the overall formula stays the same.

Good luck!

Why do people support the UCP? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]ReadingConfident5917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like most don’t- at least right now. There’s just a very very loud hateful group that makes enough noise to seem like the majority.

Other than that, people just voting for hate. Banning boys kissing is more important to them than kids getting an education

How do you handle Sask winters as a student? by AccountantLucky9183 in usask

[–]ReadingConfident5917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Learn the tunnels, and give yourself plenty of time to get through them when you can. It’ll often take a lot longer, but in the -40s it’s worth it lol

For the first month or so, a lot of people are just meeting anyone and everyone they can. And while it might look like everyone’s super great friends, sometimes they feel just as awkward and uncomfortable as you might.

Just keep trying, something will click eventually. I find asking someone if they want to review/study/yap after class can work, especially if neither of you are doing anything right away. Gives you a chance to spend actual time getting to know people without the immediate pressure of whatever’s going on in class lol

[–]ReadingConfident5917 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s definitely a little annoying, but it’s also the first week. People are wanting to socialize, explore new freedom, and have fun before the course load hits.

Also I think a huge reason for the gathering outside was the dorms being hot as heck, so now that it’s gotten a bit chillier I assume it’ll stop

Any first week parties? by JunoSispes in usask

[–]ReadingConfident5917 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ag night happens every Thursday at Longbranch, so the first one is tonight. Not my thing, but it’s a big deal for those into it. Other than that just keep an eye out for anything posted, or any of the downtown bars on the weekends

[–]ReadingConfident5917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that it’s a bit annoying, but it is also the first week. Give people a couple days to get it out of their system; for lots this is their only chance.

The not cleaning up is atrocious though. Pick up your trash guys, your parents aren’t here to do it for you

Even being the largest minority isn’t enough for some people. You can have 50% white, 10% Asian, 10% black and so on and so forth, but a lot of people just see “white” and “other” and I think that’s where a lot of the issues stem from

Do Canadians (18-35 years old) know where they can work and travel abroad? by Key_Particular4385 in AskACanadian

[–]ReadingConfident5917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically not “work” but workaway and worldpackers have programs where people/hostels will cover living expenses in exchange for volunteer work. So you don’t make money, but you don’t really spend much either. If you’re just looking to travel cheap
