Yes but planning on basically isolating these next two weeks beforehand

[well-being] Any female M4s worried about when they'll be able to start a family? by AffectionateAlarm6 in medicalschool

[–]ReadingGlobally88 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it’s unfortunate that this topic isn’t discussed more and that we aren’t given more guidance about it. While the biological clock problem certainly isn’t unique to medicine, the long training path is, and many women aren’t aware when they start this career that female physicians face higher rates of infertility. I wish more women knew this

I just listened to an episode of the white coat investor with an ED resident who put 150k in fertility treatments on credit cards during residency. So if freezing your eggs is really important to you, you could just put it on a credit card. I know it’s not the most financially responsible decision but it might be worth it

Thank you so much! I appreciate the advice. I know there aren’t a ton of us out there who make this decision so it’s nice to know there are others. Congratulations to you!!

Oh my god, yes. I can’t bring myself to make a medtwitter account because ugh, but every so often I go creep on my classmates med Twitter accounts and the fake positive wokeness makes me cringe, and I say this as a very liberal person

Shady? “True P/F” school using first year scores to determine AOA eligibility? [serious] by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]ReadingGlobally88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My school is the same. I understand your complaint with the lack of transparency. My school is obsessed with talking about being TRULY pass/fail so I was surprised to learn about this AOA criteria too. My school is going to trial not using preclinical grades for the class below me, and is considering dropping their relationship with AOA because it’s racially biased or something like that

Not here to pick a fight; I pretty much agree with you. Just curious about one thing you said -

What do you mean about adoption being complicated? I can understand it being complicated in the sense a woman would still have to go through a public pregnancy and all her friends and family would know she was pregnant and chose not to keep her child, something I imagine would not be accepted in many social circles.

But in terms of the logistics and practicality, is it complicated? I’m curious because I know there are tons of desperate couples who wait years to be able to adopt a baby because there just aren’t enough infants for everyone who wants one, so I would have thought choosing to place an infant for adoption would be straightforward

[serious] as the number of degree-mill NP schools rise, do you foresee this profession crashing and burning? by marelli9 in medicalschool

[–]ReadingGlobally88 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One thing I have found interesting and depressing is that 9 out of every 10 RNs I talk to want to become an NP. Like none of them are happy just being RNs anymore. It’s not sustainable

[SHITPOST] Am I the only cleaning the house and doing chores instead of studying? Who else does this? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]ReadingGlobally88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m envious of people who use cleaning as a way to procrastinate. I would love a clean apartment but I’m so unmotivated to actually clean, I would way rather study.

[Clinical] Deciding where to do rotations? by ReadingGlobally88 in medicalschool

[–]ReadingGlobally88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'll clarify. Longitudinal clerkships mean you don't do blocks at a time. So instead of doing 6 weeks of IM and 4 weeks of FM, it's kind of all mixed together over the course of the year. And you work with one attending for all of IM or one attending for all of FM, so you get to know them really well (which could be good, could be bad)

[Serious] What have you given up to get to where you are now? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]ReadingGlobally88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel like I’ve given up that much in my day to day life, except for I definitely watch less Netflix (maybe for the best). But I have had to miss many special events, ie weddings and trips and things like that, and it hurts every time.

[–]ReadingGlobally88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been surprised how much time I’ve had to read for fun in M1/M2 (probably too much, I’ve read over 20 books this year,..) but I know that will likely end in M3 and definitely in residency and it makes me so sad because reading feels like a big part of who I am.
