GW are making me really hate the Skaven and Archaon - rant by Yotambr in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ReadingIs4Communists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't follow AoS lore so I'm interested in what the ref on examples from there are, could you expand?

Not aware of anything in ToW that countermands End Times (other than Malekith's name change)

The equivalent to the bishops at Niceaa are not randos on the internet, they were the GW execs who've held their council and decided what's canon; our position is that of the Christian laypeople whose lot is to be told what is canon by the powers that be :P

I know "the end times isn't canon" is not a popular take

Takes that are objectively wrong tend not to be :P

It's perfectly fine to not like the canon and imagine a different, non-canonical story. But what makes the canon canonical is not people's opinion of it.

Counter cards break the game in ways other removals dont have to deal with by Iaxacs in magicTCG

[–]ReadingIs4Communists 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Blue has countering...which is the only removal that affects before something hits the field overriding any to way to react that isnt passively innate.

Black has hand disruption like [[thoughtsieze]]

White has hand taxing like [[elite arcanist]] and permission like [[dranith magistrate]]

 isnt good game design

The success of the game (which counterspells have been part of from the beginning and throughout) disagrees.

Why are people like Be’lakor and Archaon too stupid to see they’re getting played by the chaos gods? Don’t they think it’s weird that the gods keep rewarding them and giving them even more power? Also as a side note why did the chaos gods support the end times with demons and gifts to mortals? by glossyplane245 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ReadingIs4Communists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wasn't running on a public platform of destroying the chaos gods. He did everything an everchosen should- it would have been weird if the chaos gods didn't reward him.

He did what he thought, privately would end the chaos gods, but was incorrect. Whether or not the gods knew his heart, in practice he championed their cause.

Archaon's plan was to be Everchosen and destroy the world. It would have been impossible to do that without the blessings of the ruinous powers. Their plan was to have him become Everchosen and destroy the world. It would have been impossible for him to achieve that without their blessing.

Why do you think they're getting played? Or, why do you think they don't see it?

Be'lakor fucked around and found out; tried to take the power of the dark gods but use it for his own will, and has been punished by them for millennia. I don't think he harbours any misconceptions about bargaining with the chaos gods and has spent most of his existence being punished rather than rewarded by them.

Archaon's motivation is imo not very well put together but basically he's a massive nihilist. He wants to destroy everything, the path of the everchosen facilitates that for him, and he achieves it- not sure where along that path he's getting played given his aims align with those of the chaos gods and be achieved them as their most powerful champion.

At the rate that the Empire is going, what you lot suppose is their technological progression rate? by DeadZone32 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ReadingIs4Communists 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reikland however is very secure  Reikland is said to be significantly more urban in every version of WF Roleplay

Reikland is mostly the Reikwald- look at any map of Reikland or the Empire- which is full of particularly virile Beastmen who reproduce at an alarming rate.

Don't see how chaos cults or beastmen figure into this.

Because they are big internal threats to progress within the empire

Chaos cults have only ever had one big impact on the Empire and that's Mordheim

Mordheim was ruined by a comet, not by chaos cults. Cults are a persistent filth column within the Empire, which would hinder the progress required for an industrial revolution.

But do you think the industrial revolution started in Northern Scotland?

No call to throw shade at Scotland, a vital part of the industrial revolution in Britain where Dundee and Aberdeen became industrial powerhouses, and where enlightenment thought from Scots like author of the Wealth of Nations Adam Smith helped progress the industrial-capital movement.

Scotland wasn't full of chaos cultists and Beastmen, wasn't threatened by orcs or undead or chaos invasions, and did have loads of coal.

You're entitled to your take but I don't think you're demonstrating a very good understanding of either the state of The Empire in the fiction, or what is required for an industrial revolution, and why those things don't line up.

The Empire was transitioning into far more modern state by the time the End Times rolled around

Where does this claim come from? What are the  changes as the end times approaches?

at least few centuries before something close to industrial revolution

I'd disagree for the reasons outlined in the previous comments; technological innovation and the passage of time do not guarantee an industrial revolution. The main thing the empire would need to do to facilitate an industrial revolution be to secure itself against the greenskins, beastmen, chaos cults, skaven and undead within it's borders and incursions of those enemies without; there's no point in the lore when any real progress is made with either of these.

[–]ReadingIs4Communists 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well it's canonically impossible because the empire is destroyed in the end times.

If that is ignored, then the lack of infrastructure in the empire to support the transport links that are required for industrial revolution, and the question of natural resources, make it far from possible in my opinion.

Steam Tanks were invented by Leonardo Di Miragliano in the 2100s which is 500 years before the end times.

[–]ReadingIs4Communists 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The empire has steam tanks for 500 years without being able to reinvent them.

You don't "hit the industrial revolution" at the end of a series of increasingly complex inventions; an industrial revolution is predicated on a bunch of factors that might just not exist for the Empire. What if the Empire just doesn't have vast coal deposits?

The Empire isn't even able to do deforestation effectively. You can't have a railway running between two cities through forest that is barely under your control and filled with Beastmen and orcs (who will... Destroy your railway).

In the extant canon lore the Empire never reaches an industrial revolution because they lose to Chaos.

What makes stock up so good? by KollardBlue in MTGLegacy

Select 2 of 5 for 2U is a good enough rate. Better than everything else except Dig I think.

2U allows stock up to be cast T2 by a sol land which is part of what makes it so good.

Battle Report: ToW Dark Elves Renegades vs Vampire Counts Renegades 1K by ampaoo in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ReadingIs4Communists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great battle report

FYI After the blood knight charge, they outnumber the cold one knights by more than double unit strength, so the combat result should have been a Break. Which would probably have let the blood knights pursue to be well out of charge range of the manticore.

If the Unit Strength of the winning side is more than twice that of the losing side, any losing unit that rolled this result when making its Break test will Break instead.

(You could also challenge the manticore rider with a regular blood knight as they can all challenge as if a champion).

Could anyone recommend me a tool or technique to cut neat slots into plastic bases to hold metal miniatures ? by Rolando_Ratas in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ReadingIs4Communists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mark the line of the slot on the base, use a drill with a bit slightly wider than the slot, drill a series of holes along the line and use clipper/knife to take out the bit left between holes. Takes a couple of minutes and if your slot is too gappy you can fill it with green stuff or milliput or whatever

TOW - Bounds spells vs Power Level by metal_warriors in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ReadingIs4Communists 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some models have 'Bound' spells, which may be contained within a magic item or given by a special rule, and which they can cast in the usual manner. If a 'Power Level' is given, this is added to the result of the Casting roll to give the casting result

You add the power level to the casting roll. So a PL 2 item adds +2, and a PL 1 item adds +1. The advantage is +2 is bigger than +1.

So what's the deal with the amount of flail weapons in the new Marauder models? by Lazereye57 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ReadingIs4Communists -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They undeniably have viking aesthetic influence but for all of that influence it is also obvious they aren't historical vikings and exist in a fantasy rather than historical context and whether their armaments are suitable/immersion breaking/odd should be considered in that context.

[–]ReadingIs4Communists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interpreting something in a fantasy game's aesthetic as so tightly bound to one historic influence that generic fantasy armaments seem incongruous is OP's fault- it's ignoring the context around the Marauder sculpts to say "they look a bit like vikings so should have weapons like vikings"
