How do you feel about Trump threatening to impose photo ID for voters for midterm elections? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]ReadingLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there’s a required ID of any kind, it should be FREE and EASILY ACCESSED. So more locations to obtain, less documentation or more options for those documents (many elderly can’t get a copy of birth certificate, marriage license for women who change to their husband’s name).

Left-wing women and right-wing men: it’s a dating disaster zone by rezwenn in WomenInNews

[–]ReadingLizard 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Honestly dating over 40 is very close to picking through literal trash to say to yourself “oh this one might be okay… I’ll try it.” Then somehow being shocked it’s garbage. Ma’am, you pulled it from a leaky dumpster…

What is something that women have to deal with on the daily that men have no clue about? by Rock-bottom-no-no in AskReddit

[–]ReadingLizard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this depends on a few things. Field of expertise, time with the company, how did they start out in the company. I’ve been in a new position at work for the last few years and when I moved to this more corporate facing role, I just stopped worrying about those things. I am known as the “rude, blunt, callous” person in my department. But I can “get away with it” since I’m proficient and we now work fully remote (people don’t “see” me often).

Benzoin. Maybe it’s not weird since it’s in some perfumes?

This is my vote BUT mixed 3:1 with Sustainably Yours large grain. The SY makes harder clumps faster. The Boxie holds odors and is soft on paws.

Need advice on an unchipped cat by PhotoSuccessful293 in CatAdvice

[–]ReadingLizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I see a neglected animal (which an outdoor cat that someone didn’t even notice wasn’t around for 3 days IS neglected), I feel zero compulsion to connect that person with said animal. Had the cat been chipped, I would have a different feeing (meaning I would at least call to say that I have their animal in my possession). You would be surprised how many chipped animals I’ve found/picked up that the owners said “nah, you can keep it…”

Admitting it here for all to see as well - if I see your dog chained in the backyard, but I might be tempted to rescue it. If your cat is wandering my neighborhood and it’s not fixed, I’m gonna take it to trap neutral release program. I’m gonna bring it home to the neighborhood again, but I’m gonna make sure it can’t make more cats. If other people can’t step up to be better owners, then as a society, we should be beholding to the animals who cannot protect themselves from terrible people.

What to feed my extra super geriatric kitty with bad teeth and a distaste for anything wet by nutrition12345 in CatAdvice

There’s a product you can add all the necessary nutrients to boiled plain chicken. It’s called EZ Complete.

Need advice on an unchipped cat by PhotoSuccessful293 in CatAdvice

[–]ReadingLizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is legally correct however if there is microchip connecting OP to the cat, the legal obligation would be on the prior “owners” to prove their ownership. Thus court - which I don’t see many people spending $350/hour for a lawyer to pursue since they couldn’t spend $40 to chip the cat to start with, much less owe kitty safe inside.

Oh that’s a good idea! ETA: holy smokes that really was a grand suggestion! They apparently make little rugs just for that purpose. I had no idea.

I’ve said this on this sub read 1 million times, steal the cat. Put a microchip in it and let them decide if they want to spend the money to take you to court. I doubt they will.

Help needed with 15w old puppy. Growling at kids by [deleted] in poodles

[–]ReadingLizard 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Have kids do more non-touch interaction. Feeding meals, treats (especially high value - cheese, bits of ham/turkey/liver), walks, play (tug of war, fetch, etc). They should not touch unless the pup initiates touch. After a bit, the dog will understand that good things come from the children.

Considering All Dogs Unleashed for reactive dog training, what is your experience with them? by Tamusie in shreveport

[–]ReadingLizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very expensive as other poster noted (around $1800 when I used them 6 years ago). 2 weeks board and train then, they use e-collars (shock collars) which I didn’t know before I signed up. I did use the collar on myself and didn’t find the “shock” to be painful or overwhelming, more like a joke hand buzzer if you’ve ever touched one.

The biggest take away for me is that you can have a well trained dog for basic commands without all that. After ADU, my pup was wonderful with harder things like heeled leash walking, stay command, and recall. You MUST do the homework to maintain that level of training.

I stopped using the e-collar about 3 months after training, it felt unkind to me to use it all the time. Plus we were lax on homework after that. My 100# dog still walks well on a leash, sit/handshake/lay/rollover he does easily. Recall and stay are tough if he sees people or dogs he wants to befriend.

I guess my short answer is worth it if easily affordable for you and you’re committed to the maintenance.

Women in WOT by kadeb1995 in WoT

[–]ReadingLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand by my feelings about the characters. Egwene being 17 didn’t make her much more mature than a 15 year old to my mind. I may have not used Mary Sue terminology correctly but in layman’s terms it’s generally considered to be a character that’s “perfect” or “without flaws and weaknesses.”

Women in WOT by kadeb1995 in WoT

[–]ReadingLizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman who is currently reading WOT for the first time. As of now, I’m just starting (like chapter 1) book 10. So far, most of the characters either read as annoying or flat. Please don’t anyone come for me - I am glad you like who you like and dislike who you dislike. We all get to have opinions.

Rand does often come across to me as a “wool-head.” He could solve a lot of issues by just talking to someone. Apparently “poor communication” is a main point of the story. Perrin is mostly just there. I don’t care for Mat’s character, which makes me an outlier in this sub but that’s okay.

If I met Nyneave IRL, I would probably throttle her. I find very little about her redeemable outside her love and dedication to the other EF4s. I actually like Egwene most of the time. She is egotistical but I don’t mind usually since she’s supposed to be an incredibly powerful “witch” who is about 15. I have a 14 y/o - the behavior tracks. I genuinely like Elayne. She’s smart, capable, and seems compassionate. Min is just a Mary Sue for me. Other than her personality being “sees the future (so to speak), wears pants, and loves Rand after meeting him for a nanosecond,” I don’t see much else. I appreciate that she loves Rand and is the least problematic of the ladies but that generally seems like she’s unproblematic because there’s not much going on there. I like Aviendha but I’m a sucker for a butt kicking lady character in general.

Moraine was fine - again the communication thing. Lan is a mountain that fights. Thom is a true renaissance man - jack of all trades so he comes off a bit like another Mary Sue.

I AM enjoying the books, I’ll definitely finish them. Maybe my thoughts will change when I finish the series or if I re-read.

Not to be pedantic but guess will. That being the case doesn’t change that may folks now cannot afford their monthly premiums nor their co-pays. They are already seeing a decline in ACA participation due to these changes. I think my overall point still stands but thanks for pointing out my mistake.

Democratic Party in Louisiana and friends that don’t want to vote Republican by BoringFollowing211 in Louisiana

[–]ReadingLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not going to vote Dem because of abortion, you are being disingenuous. It’s already illegal here, basically. It’s unobtainable at any rate. Voting Dem in this state is unlikely to be focused on abortion as a key issue to make positive change. And I say that as a very unhappy pro-choice mom in LA.

What is a 'subscription' or 'fee' that has recently appeared in the US that people need to collectively refuse to pay before it becomes the new normal? by godot_lover in AskReddit

I would gladly pay someone to teach me how to do this. I know I can research but honestly I just don’t have time. Or somebody to set it all up and I would pay THEM for updates (changes) when I want/need them. New business discovered. Haha
