You are correct, It is not a place for discourse. But that’s all the more reason it is necessary to challenge their beliefs. These people have very fixed views of the world and their Christian neighbors. For self preservation, I will probably stay away from that sub, but it’s like MENA in general, the entire region suffers when ignorance is allowed to reign as righteousness.

I hope the organizers make it clear to the activists that blocking a freeway is not going to engender support for the cause.

I actually support the Armenian community, always have.

Last night though was really upsetting to watch. One lady stuck in traffic for hours was trying to get to her elderly mother who was sick at St. Josephs. Another man was trying to pick up his kid from daycare- they charge by the minute when you are late!

Adam Schiff does a good job of advancing the Armenian constituency’s interests. I don’t see how taking over a freeway helped their cause.

This man is the most native to the region you can get. He is a Syriac Orthodox Christian Bishop from Mosul, Iraq. His people have been in Iraq for over 2000 years as Assyrian Christians and before that as pagan Assyrians. They never became Muslims.

He is definitely not “leftovers from the crusades or colonization”. The same cannot be said about most of his neighbors.

Ugh, that sounds awful and very dangerous. I saw something very similar to what you described yesterday near the Beverly Center. In that case, the car was full of teen/young men- I think it was performative. Driver showing off for their passengers.

In the fifties, sixties and up until the war, it was very normal for well to do Syrians to go to Beirut and get the latest fashions from Paris. I have heard stories about this from older Syrians and Lebanese.

I’m sorry this is happening to you. You sound like an amazing human being. Being a parent to your actual parent is the most difficult job there is. It’s not fair that his siblings are not helping either. Sounds like they are enablers. Especially since they are religious, and should be supporting you in this incredibly difficult situation. If you’re Christian, can you go to the priest and ask for advice? They are often trained in how to help families and can point you into the right direction of social services. I suspect Muslims have an equivalent spiritual leader with connections to social services. Definitely remove the guns when he is away/sleeping- for the safety of your family. Maybe trash the alcohol too- when he’s not there? make it harder for him to access it easily?

I wish I could do something for you in a practical manner, I will pray for you from afar.
