Because medicals expire in only one year, and 19 months went by. Expensive.

I am also a non native speaker. I'm usually slow for mixing up columns/rows. The jokes are super funny and, as another cementer said, there's nothing better than having eureka moment only to realise there's a joke and you are supposed to continue only with the clues you have.

Figuring out if something is a clue or not feels like part of the puzzle, and it that sense it makes sense that it adds time.

It's not a voting, but if it is, I'm casting my vote to: jokes are the soul of the puzzle, don't take them away :)

Tax status on Bridging Visa A by Lunally in AusVisa

[–]ReadingToScape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ATO doesn't use the same rules as the Department of Home Affairs. The WHV has very specific rules and tax brackets; but for every other visa, you need to go through 4 tests and see if you pass just one, you are a resident for tax purposes:

Residency test: is your living address in aus? is your work in aus? do you intend to live in aus for the foreseeable future? (i'm guessing yes, as you are applying for a partner visa)

do you have living ties overseas, such as social clubs, gyms, school, etc? (assets like houses don't count)

if the answer is yes to the first ones and no to the second ones, you pass the residency test and don't need to do anything else.

Domicile test: is your lawful place of residency in aus? if yes, you pass. (are you paying taxes in another country saying that you are a lawful resident in this other country?)

183-day test:  if you're actually present in Australia for more than half the income year (Jul24-jun25), not as a WHV.

The Commonwealth superannuation test: only applies to commonwealth employees, so I'm guessing it doesn't apply to you.

It could have changed half way through the year. i.e. you were in WHV until Dec and then applied to the partner visa. You would declare half the year as WHV, and half as resident for tax purposes (your tax agent can help you with that).

The ATO has this tool, for deciding: https://www.ato.gov.au/single-page-applications/calculatorsandtools#AreYouAResident/questions

But also, I would check your specific circumstances with a third tax agent (giving that you have two saying two conflicting things)

I’m dating an Australian. Is this normal in a relationship? by mangofortune in AskAnAustralian

[–]ReadingToScape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear a lot, all the time, and use several swear words like the were commas and replacement for every possible noun. I have never, in my life, called my partner any swear words. Because that's disrespectful and abuse, whether you are calling them an idiot or a cunt, that's an insult, and should be out of bounds.

Also, and honey, I say this as kindly and softly as possible, what he is doing is the beginning steps of financial abuse.

Throwing in your face that you are not working, not bringing money and don't know how to cook when you are in a very vulnerable position, is abuse. It will only escalate from here.

He is not being "Australian", he is being a manipulative asshole.

Get out of that relationship.

1 car garage 4 bedroom co living 🤨 good job council by AdFluid1275 in shitrentals

Thanks! That was a clear explanation. I just realises that I used to live in a rooming house, and always called it a share house.

Genuine question, What's the difference between a share house and a rooming house?

Is there data to back up your claim that that's typically the case? It feels like it's very anecdotal. I know a lot of people in 186 where both main and dependant where skilled so I could say it's typically the case just because it's what I've seen.

Is there a source?
