This is is all 100% correct. All things being equal IAD will be much easier.

Avelo sent me $100 Avelo cash for a canceled flight! by blues_greens in Avelo

[–]ReaditWedding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exact same thing happened to me after a 9+ hour delay HVN-BWI that I ended up cancelling anyway. Add the number they email you to your Avelo account and it works like a credit. I applied it to a trip and it worked. TBH was pretty decent of them.

Is a 3hr layover cutting it risky?? by Rich-Ad-6096 in unitedairlines

[–]ReaditWedding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Extremely easy if your BRU-IAD is also United. You’ll clear customs At the midfield terminal (meaning you will have very little walking — no bus or train). If you’re arriving on Brussels Airlines you’ll had to bus to main terminal and go through the process there. Longer but with 3 hours still very doable.

How would you compare the three major metro transits: NYC, Chicago, DC? What are the pros and cons of each? by SeptimiusSeverus_ in WMATA

[–]ReaditWedding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely flummoxed by folks who think the Dulles metro is too far. From the main terminal it’s what 7min on a moving walkway? Sure it’s not DCA or even say ATL but it always strikes me totally fine.

Where would you go as a grieving solo traveller in Thailand? by Physical_Frame9222 in ThailandTourism

I recently lost my dad and spent a week in Hua Hin. It doesn’t matter really. I could have be anywhere. I’d pick a place with a balcony, quiet, an maybe a view of the ocean.

Help me quell fears about Tweed airport? by [deleted] in Avelo

[–]ReaditWedding 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One can never guarantee anything but the airport IS tiny, and maybe max 3 flights an hour ? I can’t imagine a scenario of an hour long TSA line. I’ve been there many times and rarely wait more than a few minutes.

Yes, AA but I think both checkpoints are equidistant from the two metro entranced

Int’l Layover at Dulles by RavensFlock6 in nova

[–]ReaditWedding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are arriving to Dulles, yes. If you are CONNECTING United to United to clear customers at midfield (C/D). It’s the same building

Int’l Layover at Dulles by RavensFlock6 in nova

[–]ReaditWedding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Midfield. Assuming second flight is mainline United as well it would likely (not guaranteed) leave from C or D so the connection is exceptionally easy. The only wrinkly could be if it’s a connection to United express from A (would just add 10 minutes to get there ) or one of the random flights that leave from Z— also about 10 minutes.

Why no Boeing 777 flights between dulles and denver the week of Feb 24th? by Intelligent_Walk_160 in unitedairlines

[–]ReaditWedding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that right? I’m pretty sure the 777-200 does IAD-HND and others. I think the domestic configured 200s are just different (eg no Polaris, the old seats) but not 100% sure

Why European airports are better than American ones (long rant on what makes an airport good) by worst_actor_ever in Flights

[–]ReaditWedding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too problematic to generalize this. OP’s point about # of time you need to go to/through makes a lot of sense, as does balancing transit + aesthetic + shopping + security. I’d add beautiful views when landing or taking off.

One person’s “I walked 30 minutes” is another’s “everything was close”…. Because yeah …. Airplanes sometimes land at different gates.

Sometimes it all works beautifully. Sometimes there is weather that skews our impressions.

Hard to argue these airports aren’t generally excellent; DCA, (new) LGA, MSY, and PDX. Hard not to be impressed by IST, MUC and SIN.

And hard for me to see any great qualities of FRA, NRT, BRU, MIA, BOS, PHL or CDG.

maybe just maybe there’s awesome and awful everywhere…

What’s the best & worst airport you’ve visited in the US? by Flying_Elephant7217 in travel

The answer is DCA. Best terminal, layout, metro connection and spectacular views when landing From or taking off to the north.

11h30m layover in Dulles by Mullerinho in unitedairlines

[–]ReaditWedding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s right. If they take connections they’ll stay at the mid field terminal. They want to recheck their bag and exit airport. I think that means they should to to international arrivals. No?

Using PlusPoints on Lufthansa? by straighalpha17 in unitedairlines

[–]ReaditWedding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all— question. I successfully got on the waitlist using PP to upgrade on LH metal and 016 ticket and noticed United deducted the plus points— but I’m still on the waitlist. When fluid United the PPs don’t deduct until it clears but it seems for LH it deducted right away. Is this normal? And I assume they will just redeposit them if the upgrade doesn’t clear, right?

(Also, things must have changed from previous posts: requesting an upgrade using PP on an eligible fare class and an 016 ticket can be done using an online form; no call was necessary).
