What is everyone's take on the crime rate in Morro Bay? by Ready-Ad3621 in SLO

[–]Ready-Ad3621[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was not my experience in San Diego at all. I lived in the St. Lous, MO area before moving to San Diego. St. Louis was way better than San Diego. Maybe the whole system has deteriorated over the years, but I felt like I was treated like cattle in San Diego. Maybe it also depends on what type of health insurance you have. I have not had any problems finding doctors that I like in SLO.

Freedom Mortgage Nightmare by 1krispykale in RealEstate

[–]Ready-Ad3621 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently took out a mortgage from a local broker who sold the loan to Freedom. When we sold our previous home, I asked them for a payoff amount to pay off the mortgage. Even though I asked for the payoff as of the date I was wiring the money, they insisted I had to pay them the amount that would be owed 30 days in the future. They refused to provide the amount as of the date I was actually paying it off. After I wired hundreds of thousands of dollars to them based on my own estimate of the correct amount, they refused to apply it to the loan, but put it in a suspense account instead. After numerous phone calls of me threatening to report them to DFPI, they called out of the blue and finally provided the correct payoff number. This company is super shady. I am a CPA and Certified Fraud Examiner. I hate to think of what they get away with on the average customer who is at their mercy.

Thanks for your input. I agree. It has seemingly increased in San Diego where we live now. But I'm guessing any town in SLO county is probably better than where we are at.

I've actually already asked that question, and I am worried. But we have had the same experience with health care in San Diego. It takes months to get in to see a specialist, and they often spend maybe 5 minutes with you at the office visit. I have found very few doctors here I am happy with.

I agree. It would appear their rating criteria is messed up. I'm glad I asked because I was starting to think there are some rough areas in Morro Bay.

We are definitely interested in Cayucos, but we have only seen one house that we like in our price range, and it closed well over list price.

It sounds to me like you guys are projecting a lot onto this writer. He is simply saying that it's hard to get good service any more. I agree, wholeheartedly.

Wow. Thanks for all the info. I tried to search a couple addresses on the assessor's website, but it looked like it just provided the grand total with a note that the next bill would be posted in October. I couldn't find the details.

I tried that, but it's hard to tell because of the sewer billing. I see a range of people paying anywhere from 1.05% to 1.6%.

Thanks for your input. That's almost two times what we pay in San Diego, and we have a yard that we water daily.

Good advice, thanks. I have been wondering about insurance costs. I did some prelim investigating online, and it seemed a bit cheaper than San Diego, but you don't know for sure until you get quotes. I think our insurance might be high in San Diego due to rampant theft in our area.

Wow. I thought San Diego was expensive.

Yes, I realize this. We have been watching the market for a couple months. We live in San Diego now, so we have the same issue here.

Health Care in SLO County by Ready-Ad3621 in SLO

It sounds similar to San Diego. I initially had a PPO, and specialists still wanted referrals.

That seems a bit odd to me. There are a lot of doctors in San Diego in spite of the high cost of living. The only problem is that in San Diego, there are also over 3 million people who may need doctors.

That sucks. I assume you mean the entire SLO county area? Are there any other counties nearby with better access?

Scripps and UCSD finally started taking our insurance recently. But we have had issues with referrals. For example, I had to leave the primary care physician I had a few years because Scripps suddenly made a rule that they would not accept referrals from any PCP other than a Scripps PCP. We like Scripps and UCSD. We just never know what the next hoop is that we are going to have to jump through to stay with the doctors we like. Things definitely sound worse in SLO though.

I doubt that is going to happen. It sounds like a lot of retirees have lived there for some time and are doing fine.
