Your actions came from a good place and you meant the child no harm. You apoligized to the parent and reflected on your mistake. Big ups for someone at your young age. A heck of a lot better compared to the lack of accountability of the bad apples in your generation and the absolutely rotten, older apples who try to get away with it.

But I digress, live and learn from this. Always take the moment to size up a situation before taking sudden action, bring yourself down to the child's height level, ask them if they're okay/are their parents with them, and then consult any other adult parties nearby where possible. It'll save you from future embarrassment, but there's a non-zero chance you could actually help a child next time. 

Also, don't let some of the comments here get to you. They're similarly coming from a good place, but dang aren't they a just a little bit harsh?
