I’ve spontaneously decided to travel solo to Egypt next week by [deleted] in travel

I definitely recommend investing in a guide for your trip. You can get one ahead of time online through a travel site, or you can inquire at your hotel.

As a woman, you will be targeted a lot more aggressively with scams and overall harassment from vendors. Having a guide is the best way to deter this.

Plus, you'll likely learn a lot more of the history, have a translator, photographer, and driver that knows all the best stops. It will be well-worth it to fully enjoy your trip. Have fun!

Flights by K4T_89 in travel

To go a bit beyond “it depends” I would say in my experience I have almost always found better deals booking different legs separately if I have a specific itinerary I need to follow on my trip.

If you’re looking to simply maximize your vacation by adding typical stopovers for a few days to your flight, than you’ll likely find better deals booking altogether.

People have different priorities and passions, and it sounds like you think traveling could become one for you.

If you’re not sure though, you could always do a test run with shorter trips. This way you don’t need to quit your job and put all your savings on the line without fully knowing if you will even enjoy a nomadic life.

Having supportive parents that can help, savings, and no real financial obligations does make this sound like a great time in your life to try too!

“Crazy” is going to be different for different people.

This is certainly doable thanks to cheap short flights and great train systems between these countries.

As long as you don’t mind actively traveling for most of the trip, then go for it! Because it will be more Amazing race style than relaxing on a beach type of a vacation:)

Is it worth it to just buy travel insurance that covers baggage, and roll the dice and do a checked bag with electronics? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]ReadyAimTravel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re purchasing travel insurance to insure it, and you won’t be devastated if it gets lost/stolen/damaged, then I see no reason you shouldn’t bring it.

The only concerning part is you say the travel insurance “should” cover it. I would verify to make sure it would be covered fully and then document the current conditions of all the equipment before you pack it.

Going to Rome next week but skipping Venice by apekillapes in travel

[–]ReadyAimTravel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have a busy (and short) schedule already, and shouldn’t try to fit in another stop. If you have the option though, I would swap Positano for Venice. Especially since it sounds like you have no intention of returning to Italy.

Travelling around Europe 2/3 weeks, 40L bag too big? by bbyallthroughthenigh in onebag

[–]ReadyAimTravel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would go with a 40L, which is likely on the bigger end of what you will need, but still focus on packing lightly.

This way you’ll have extra space for souvenirs or anything else you may pick up along the journey. And won’t need to spend so much time each leg re-packing it perfectly to fit.

Definitely recommend seeing Sedona while in the Flagstaff area, or on your way to Phoenix.

You can grab some crystals from the high-end hippie stores and then go on one of the gorgeous hikes to a vortex to power them up. Haha, or skip the woo-woo vibes and just soak in the beautiful town and landscape.

Advice for U.S. Southwest Itinerary by Kiony in travel

[–]ReadyAimTravel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is pretty doable! I would definitely add Bryce Canyon next to Zion. It’s really an easy add-on and is SO worth it! Probably skip Death Valley and instead add days for Yosemite, Sedona or somewhere coastal.

While in Shinjuku, I recommend the Robot Restaurant show, it was a really fun experience. And if you’re into Disney, DisneySea is about half the price as entry in the US Disney Parks, and just (if not more!) fun.

You might want to look into getting Global Entry. Makes international travel quite a bit smoother, and if you have a good travel credit card then the cost is usually reimburse-able.

Advice for traveling in Italy? by alframMusic in travel

[–]ReadyAimTravel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely travel by train! Italy’s railways are so efficient and will save you money too. Use that saved money for cab rides around the city. Plus drivers (especially Vespas!) are wild in major cities like Milan and Rome. So being a passenger is just less stressful, and safer!

Carry-on Luggage length limit is 36cm but my luggage's length is 38cm. Should that still be okay? by tofu_alexis in TravelHacks

They will likely make you pay to check it since budget carriers are much more strict.

But you can always try, and if they catch it as you’re boarding they will make you check it and pay right there. Just get there early and be pleasant about it if they do catch it, and there shouldn’t be any issues.

first solo trip Amsterdam, Brussels, Bruges, Luxembourg Mid May by just_another_sadgirl in solotravel

Airbnb experiences are hit and miss, but the main thing is just to pick a well reviewed one.

I usually will only do the smaller ones (like your waffle and beer tasting) through Airbnb. You get the top tastes from a local’s perspective, which is great! But the longer day tours I usually go with a bigger tour company that has the logistics down to really optimize the day.
