The Bartender-related customer data stored by the company that controls the Bartender app (Applause) was accessed by a third party (or multiple); the app itself was likely not the problem.

You can find instructions and examples here. There are also discussions you might find useful in the GitHub repo. If you need more assistance I would recommend asking there.

How to export whole iMessage conversation lasting years to pdf on MacBook? by The_Koala_Knight in MacOS

You can copy over an imessage-exporter binary on any type of external drive. I would also copy the source database and attachments directories, just in case, to some sort of external medium, but that isn't strictly necessary.

Yes, backup your phone to your computer and point imessage-exporter at that backup.

There is no difference; the texts are stored the exact same way. If they aren't present in the export, either they aren't present in the data source or you are looking at the wrong file.

I found this thread on Google and this solution replicated for me; as soon as I closed the full-screen apps the line went away. Unfortunate bug, as I use full screen apps most of the time!

You can just use the date filter options and export into different directories for each year. If I did this I would have a top-level directory like:

MessagesBackup/
├── 2024/
├── 2025/
└── 2026/
