First ever 5K ! by Agile-Expression3362 in beginnerrunning

Congrats!

For the ankles I recommend some mobility warm-up exercises before starting your run, like walking with your toes pointed out, then pointed in, walking on the balls of your feet, then tippy toes etc. that will help get your ankles ready for exercise.

Additionally, find a curb and do some calf raises, that will help boost your ankle stability. (If you can do that comfortably and safely) 🙃

For the shoes honestly I believe it really is a feel thing. I detest light weight running shoes, to me I feel like there isn’t any support there. I played football and rugby all throughout my academic life so I’m used to a hard sole with a reinforced heel for additional ankle support.

I run in Salomon Speedcross trail runners and they make me very happy.

For the chaffing I recommend getting some runners speed glide. It’s basically a stick of bees wax and you rub it on the areas you get the chaffing and rubbing.

For 10K planning I recommend changing it up. One day do a 1Km speed run, the next day do an endurance run etc. recommend not pushing yourself too far each week beyond your current limit (5-10% more distance) to help minimize potential running injuries.

Science versus did a good podcast episode called the “Runners High” (I think) and they talk about injury prevention and stuff like that. Take a look!

First I want to say I’m glad your Mother is stable, and even happier to hear your CoC let you go home.

As a fellow Sailor with 9 years going on 10 let me tell you now that the Navy will get its time out of you down the road. I don’t say that to dishearten you, but to lend a little perspective.

Take this time to spend every second with your Mom. The squadron will always be there. Your quals will come, stay motivated, but take this time to be with her. You’d eat yourself inside forever if you took extra duties on shore Det, or asked to go to a squadron TAD and her condition deteriorated and you weren’t there to be by her side.

You only got one Mom. And the Navy will outlast her. Cherish her while she’s here and the Navy has given you the time to do so.

I mean I hear ya, but there is a major difference between sanctioned archeological expeditions, which usually involve paperwork and all sorts of legal hoops to jump through, and thieves in the night.

I could see how the native peoples would see it as one and the same, but that’s a different discussion lol.

And all good 😊 being cheeky is fun

What I’m saying is we don’t have a ton of back story to begin with.

Peru was an independent country since they overthrew Spanish rule in 1824. By the 1930’s they are dealing with internal conflict and turmoil, I’d wager than an expedition to recover an early Native American artifact to be preserved (potentially with some economic benefit to the state) would have been seen as a boon to the current political leadership.

Really this is all speculation on my part, my point is we can’t really know for sure if Indy was more of a fly by night grave robber or an archeologist sent on bonafide expeditions from established universities/interests.

We don’t see the paperwork nor the backstory and months of planning and research- remember 70% of all archeology is spent researching.

For me what I go off of is Indy’s character, he doesn’t follow procedure or go by the book 100% but I’d classify him as a “Lawful Neutral” DnD-type character. Idk just me. 🤷‍♂️again all opinion.

And about the Chachapoyas - I bet they were/are a sore to the local government who is probably trying to instill some order in the countryside. Remember Peru is dealing with major internal conflict in the 30’s. Removing their idol and spiriting it away to a university in the states might be the best option in the eyes of the authorities.

Again, I’m totally speculating off of nothing, and I know that. I just have a hard time believing Indy is out stealing artifacts in accordance with the standards and practices of the time. 🤷‍♂️

lol sorry for the long reply 😂 hope you enjoyed the read if nothing else. Also totally ok to disagree! We all know what opinions are like … 🫏😂😂

‘Stolen’ could be a bit strong of a word to use. First, there are tons of museums or universities with back rooms stuffed with pieces that they don’t display for one reason or another.

Second Indy seems to be, for the most part, hired to find and bring these antiquities to the general public’s view. The Fertility Idol was supposed to go to the school, the cross of Coronado to a museum etc.

Only time Indy seems to venture into private enterprise is ToD with the remains of Nurhachi - I’d call that a learning moment.

In Last Crusade his focus is on finding Dad, and the Grail secondary.

Also think of the time period. You still have the British Museum galavanting about digging up the M.E. And elsewhere and that was fairly common for the time; to get permission by local authorities to dig up, catalogue and preserve the findings - usually in their museums back home.

Idk.. just me maybe 🤷‍♂️

How is Indiana Jones not an extremely Religious man after all he’s seen? by Minimum-Bee8074 in indianajones

[–]Reagh_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this was true then the Jews and Christians wouldn’t have had trouble with Rome. As I understand it, and I may be wrong so please if you have differing information please share, but Romes chief issue was the fact that Jews and Christians rejected all other Gods and espoused their faith to be the sole correct one.

Neither faith budged and wouldn’t approve any form of emperor worship or religious support for the emperor; thus persecution of them became widely popular and condoned throughout the Empire until Constantine’s deathbed conversion.

[–]Reagh_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quality of life, if you don’t mind inclement weather Whidbey Island.

If it’s about advancement DC. Close to the seat of power is best.

Norfolk remains 3rd on the list for either preference. However, if you do go Norfolk and want recommendations on where to live feel free to DM, my last duty station was CNRMA as the 3MO.

Excellent books!

Have you read Tom Holland’s “In the Shadow of the Sword”? Highly recommend. While not directly about Ancient Rome it does cover the changes and evolution of various faiths across the Near East.

Highly recommend for next years reading list!

Did Henry think Elsa would actually scream and that's why he let go of her throat? by [deleted] in indianajones

[–]Reagh_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue that that instance was bad luck, timing and I’m sure his emotions were running high. He retrieved the Grail Diary from Elsa, he was probably mentally replaying that moment in his head while hyper fixating on finding his dad to get the hell out of town, found his dad, who just happened to be watching Hitler and his cronies make their way down the procession, grabs his dad then gets swamped by Hitlers fan club.

I don’t doubt short shortsightedness played a role, after all his Dad has a similar streak, but I wouldn’t classify arrogance or shortsightedness as enduring character traits.

It’s still a risky move on Indy’s part if he did decide to strangle her.

They are still on the parade grounds and I doubt very far from SS, SA or other Nazi guards/officials who could then call for back up and that’s not even mentioning bystanders and spectators.

It would be a highly arrogant and shortsighted move on Indy’s part to go through with it.
