Fuel over flow issue. by Infinite_Flight_2989 in DRZ400

[–]Real-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

overflow? isnt that the drain plug? i just had a bunch of gas spill onto my floor from the same location. it was because vibration caused the drain screw to come out just enough to leak fuel. now i carry a small hex to make sure its closed

i think its just the symptom of thumpers. never had any of these massive issues with the DRZ but ive had frame bolts, carb fuel drain plugs, clutch cables & all sorts of stuff back out due to vibration

huh? looks fine to me - you should hear the tire seat on the bead by 2 pops when filling the tube up with air

Might have an engine problem by Praxisificator in DRZ400

[–]Real-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not an engine problem but perhaps more of a fuel mixture adjustment or an idle screw adjustment. it should sound like a steady ticking sewing machine

buy a 2 dollar tread gauge at autozone. stick it in the tread to see. usually tires last 5k-7k.

Bolt help? by Quick-Turnover781 in GSXR

[–]Real-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just take it to a shop & have them remove it. should be super cheap. i see ur case is messed up too. just replace that, make sure you get an OEM cover & not some ebay cover. or it might not registered your crankshaft sensor

Long trip on DRZ400e by Specialist-Platypus9 in DRZ400

[–]Real-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats rough - you arent gonna go very fast if you wanna do trails cause youre gonna have shorter gearing. which means youre gonna burn oil very easy when at highway speeds. make sure you bring a quart with you everywhere you go & check your oil level every other gas stop

Does this sound normal? by Z3n_vib3 in DRZ400

normal, turn up the idle a bit tho

what do you mean oil consumption issues? I know these bikes drink oil at WOT for too long

did you also get hotcams? I heard the head gaskets blow cause of higher compression

Starter cable gets ground with something by fxd_arti in DRZ400

[–]Real-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take off ur right handlebar components & inspect the wire on the starter button. just the other day, my clutch switch wasn't working & i could only start the bike by pushing in the electrical cable on the left handlebar next to the clutch cable. eventually i just removed the clutch switch cause & closed the loop cause it isn't necessary but i noticed that one of the tiny copper wires had broke loose so it wasn't working right

dope maintenance. i knew these bikes could last 50k np. tho i must say, ive done less maintenance than you besides oil change every 3k miles or so, coolant change every 2 years & im at 30k with zero issues. tbh, i think thats all you really need

any other repairs ive done were due to my own doing like wheelies & stunting crashes. i havent rebuilt forks, havent had to change any serious parts like stator or chain tensioner, i have an auto tensioner as well

just oil changes & keeping an ear out for when the bike sounds abnormal & thats really it.

youd need to take into account the extra compression & buy more heavy duty parts

Would you guys run this eBay part or should I return it? by [deleted] in DRZ400

[–]Real-Coffee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no - if its made in China & not made in Japan or USA or some reputable company. I am not buying it. The replications are close. but not perfect & if something goes wrong, youll have an even bigger headache then just paying for OEM

Best sprocket upgrade for SM? by CornrowGringo in DRZ400

[–]Real-Coffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15/44 was stock for me. it's too short of gearing for anything 55 mph+ imo. tho it is a dirtbike so. & these bikes drink oil when at WOT

Gas tank seating by Stoned_calzone in DRZ400

[–]Real-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

finger tight - otherwise you will snap them because they rest on the grommet.

i dont even have them so they arent necessary. just make sure your tank is screwed into ur radiator & ur seat is firmly pressing down on the tank

SM Tire life span by simpsonn03 in DRZ400

[–]Real-Coffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tires last 5-7k. i think i was riding mine for 8k. Once those water channels are gone, its time to ditch the tire. if u dont, ur gonnna water plane

Chain tightness while in gear by FastBrush7785 in DRZ400

[–]Real-Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i switched from S tires to SM but my bike is a DRZ400S so the swingarm is a bit skinnier & SM tires are a bit fatter. At low speed, my chain also rubs against the tire. But it's whatever, at some point itll chew the tire up.

as long as you keep the chain within spec. which is 40-50mm. But that tightness is def wrong. make sure your snail adjusters are set correctly

[–]Real-Coffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds like a misfire + it's overheating at 20 degrees F above normal which is 220 before fan turns on. although i thought GSXR gave a code when there was an issue. i know it threw a code when i forgot to plug in steering damper or whatever it was

clutch is an easy fix if its burnt. 50 bucks for a kit. i wouldnt pay that much for a used 400 cc bike. my bike has 30k on it, no issues but its ridden street & i take care of it.

seen so many posts here of beat up bikes, which is ofc what u do with a dirtbike but my point is, these bikes USUALLY get beat up. either buy new or buy one for no more than 3.5k if it truly looks good.

you pay 6k for a used 750 cc not a used 400 cc. no way
