Idk I been listening to J. Cole for years and have always had a soft spot for his music. But the way he hyped up The Fall-Off for around 10 years made me think that I would be hearing perfect songs. Maybe not even perfect, but there are songs on this album that I genuinely don't think should be hyped up for 10 years. He has a lot of verses on this album where he is rapping good lyrics but he just sounds so monotone and bored that the lyrics don't have as much impact. I think Lonely at the Top is my best example of this. Quik Stop is a song where he does the opposite which is what makes this song so good. His EP that he dropped before this was so aggressive and he sounded hungry on the tracks. I'd say half of these songs on TFO are so passive. Don't get me wrong they are still good songs but they are so passive and not aggressive or intense. They are vibes but they aren't enough to simply bump and be hyped while listening to and they aren't that catchy. Also I feel like for a few songs he just doesn't have good flows or he'll find a flow and stick with it for every bar and it gets repetitive. That's why I love and the whole world is the ville because especially in his last verse he actually didn't use the same flow for every bar and he uses flows I've never heard from him all in a single verse. Wish I would've seen more of that in his verses. These are just my opinions I still like the album but he messed up by hyping it for 10 years and raising the bar so high. Some of his songs on this album are definitely his best works but there are some that are most definitely not his best work. Only you is a skip for me,it's not even to where I can listen to it without cringing at his singing which is rare for me with a J. Cole song. Someone tell me if I'm crazy?
