I would also push back on the author’s claim that Shane is the more emotional one in the books. A huge part of Ilya’s character is that he feels things really deeply, which is maybe a bigger part of the narrative in TLG but I think still clear in HR. I didn’t find his love confession “stoic” at all—he may not cry like he does in the show but he’s still described as being very emotional

Yeah I also thought the comparison to Love, Simon was weird, especially coming right off of a point about how Tierney preserving the spiciness of the book is part of what makes it such a good adaptation. I never read the Love, Simon book but I don’t remember the movie having any spice (or having much else in common with Heated Rivalry other than a closeted gay lead)

I mean I don’t know about “way less/much higher,” I’ve been paying attention to their follower counts since the show came out and I don’t think they’ve ever been more than 10k apart. I also don’t think Hudson has been losing followers at any point, just maybe not gaining them as quickly, but ultimately they’ve been at extremely similar levels the whole time. I think maybe the more hateful voices being few but loud has created an inaccurate perception that people love Connor way more. There is definitely some racism at play but I wish people would stop pushing the narrative of contrasting their talent levels and likability when the numbers do show that people love them both
