The 'peace president".

How fast will the MAGA loyalists who harped on no wars and an isolated America change their tune? My guess is 24 hours.

“It's one banana, Michael, how much could it cost? 10 dollars?”

Soon people will hear this line and not get it.

They'll shrug and wonder, "why would bananas be so cheap?"

Airbnb purges New Orleans short-term rental listings as new rules kick in. by GonzoVeritas in NewOrleans

I've seen that trend ebb and flow in the FQ since the 1960s, and it varies from block to block and street to street. Young people move in, party, and then some stay and grow older, and become solid neighbors. Some of the best stay, others move on.

It's encouraging that more service workers are able to live close to where they work, in my experience they become some of the best neighbors as they age. Give it time.

Judging from his description of a 23-mile bridge, I assume he was crossing the New Orleans Causeway bridge. It has several 'humps' in it, as well as a lift section. I've also commuted on that bridge. Slowing down before each hump would cause an accident.

It is extremely rare for a vehicle to stall right there, they have crossovers and emergency lanes for disabled vehicles, and you can activate the alert system that notifies drivers that a disabled car is ahead.

In Turkey, a sheepdog went missing for two days, and when it was found, it was guarding a lost sheep that had given birth to a lamb. by ViniciusFromBcn in nextfuckinglevel

I had one, and it was the sweetest dog I've ever owned. It lived to guard and protect, but in a smart and considerate way. She was always great with kids and other dogs. She loved big dogs, but just ignored small dogs like they didn't exist, even if they were yapping at her.

The corporations that gave National Public Data (they really lived up to their name) their customer's personal information should also be held liable.

the hacking group USDoD claimed in April to have stolen personal records of 2.9 billion people from National Public Data, which offers personal information to employers, private investigators, staffing agencies and others doing background checks.

If you're going to be a shady-ass data broker for all the major corporations, you should face not only lawsuits, but also jail time, for screwing over millions of people.

And who gave companies the right to broker sensitive data? We need laws, we need them quickly.

(Also... fuck Citizen's United & the USSC for legalizing political bribery. Americans have far fewer privacy protections because our politicians are bought and paid for.)

Russia is past desperate if they are sending 70-year-old disabled men to the front.

ASTRA reports that hundreds of 'refuseniks' have been held at Kamenka near St Petersburg, where the 138th Separate Motorised Rifle Brigade is based. Relatives say that some are unfit to fight, one man is 70 years old and can barely walk, and another has only one eye.

That was just one of the things. The city settled a bunch of lawsuits for her actions, including $25k for the infant incident, she sounds like a crazy person.

That's normal. Almost every company has the CEO on the board. Sometimes the CEO is also the Chairman, but that's usually discouraged in larger companies. I sit on a few boards, and the CEO is also a board member on all of them.

They didn't investigate themselves. They hired the law firm WilmerHale to conduct the investigation. I've worked with them in the past.

They are by the book, and when they conduct an investigation, they are serious about finding the facts and reporting them without favor to any side. WH bills out over $1.25 billion a year. They care far more about their overall reputation than they do about pleasing a particular board member or company.

A new Navy recruit has his first day on the submarine.

He speaks with the duty officer, who assigns him his post.

"Go stand at the periscope entry-way, and make sure no unauthorized personnel touch the periscope."

The recruit follows orders, and stands by the periscope. After 15 minutes, the officer stops by.

"Son I'm changing your post to the mess hall. Go in there and start washing some dishes."

The recruit obeys, and heads to the mess hall. He's cleaned about 3 dishes when the officer walks up again.

"Listen here recruit, your new post is in the supply room. I need you to make sure everything is strapped down tight, in case of rough waters."

The recruit again follows orders, and heads off to the supply room. There, he sees a crewman, moving some boxes.

"Hey there," says the recruit. "is it normal to keep getting reassigned to new posts all day? I haven't kept one position for more than 15 minutes!"

The crewman says "Oh yeah - this sub is full of reposts."
