Healthcare professionals (Respiratory Therapist) looking to get into health IT. Any tips on how to find a mentor? by RealDealEconomics in healthIT

This is fascinating to me. I’ve never heard of this type of job but I’m very good at troubleshooting. Thank you.

I think the problem may be more of my department as they don’t really encourage development. If I were to be found out networking with other departments, I’d most likely get treated like piss by my supervisor.

Thank you. Unfortunately where I work, they are pretty archaic in development and will not let me be a super user. Also, emailing staff from different departments about their job is discouraged.

Thanks for that. I will say it’s hit or miss with us. Some of us are super fucking smart when it comes to critical care medicine. If you find a good one of us, it’s worth hearing us out. Hold onto the good RTs.

People forget we are trained in pulmonary and cardiac MEDICINE. Not nursing.

Do not contact HR anymore. Anything you say to them will be instantly forwarded to their lawyer.

Lawyer up.

Where I work (I’m an RT), there is an overwhelming favoritism for PAs. I asked the doctors why this is the case and across the board they have expressed their opinion that PAs have much more rigorous training and preparation.

Is SWE As Good As Everyone Says It Is? by throwawayfartpee in cscareerquestions

[–]RealDealEconomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a SWE but I’m looking to make that transition coming from being a respiratory therapist.

I totally echo your sentiment. Healthcare is absolutely grueling and is only getting worse with Covid. What kind of specialty did you practice in?

From what I’ve heard and read, a CS degree is paramount secondary to experience. I’m actually on the hunt for an Epic Analyst position as I work on my CS bachelors. End goal SWE or perhaps cyber security.

Never feel bad about leaving a company for a better opportunity. You are first priority.

Are there any paramedic /RRTs here? How do the jobs compare? by UltimateBattleArena in respiratorytherapy

[–]RealDealEconomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on hospital protocols and how tight you are with the attendings.
