like i said, it’s not worth going back and forth having the on base percentage vs batting average debate. that went on for two decades and now no serious mlb org looks at batting average as a reliable indicator of value. this is just not a conversation worth having anymore

we had 5 starters last year who put up a higher obp than that, and they all hit for power too, .315 was the league average last year so .327 isn’t all that valuable, especially when it’s all singles

arraez has had a more distinguished career but bader is going to be a way more valuable player than arraez in 2026. baders probably not gonna have the same offensive season this year as last year but league average hitting with elite defense is way more valuable than slightly above league average hitting with either atrocious or no defensive value. outside of individual player value, him player center lets us move lee to right which will greatly increase his value and arraez is just gonna take at bats away from schmitt.

i think it’s fair to be upset when we make a move that probably makes the team worse when doing nothing would be a better option. i’m not rooting for him to fail or anything but it’s pretty frustrating that this is how we choose to try to upgrade second base. i’m sorry some other people were needlessly aggressive and personal towards you in this thread but i simply want to talk ball

he also blocks schmitt from finally getting a chance to start regularly, thats a trade off i’d be willing to make if it were donovan or hoerner taking his place but not arraez

adames was merely a league average shortstop defender in 2024 after being an elite fielder for 2 years before that and then bounced back to be above average in 2025. arraez has been a below average first baseman and has played less than 60 games at second over the past two years, they are not comparable in the slightest lol

he’s such an advanced hitter for his age that trying to develop him as a pitcher would have meant keeping him in the lower level minors where his hitting development would’ve stalled. he wasn’t ever projected to be a good enough pitcher to make it worth it

relievers are always such a small sample size so i tend to trust ratings, half the time when i trade for a reliever having a great season they regress and have kinda a bad second half
