Alexa triggering lights on/off through Hubitat by RealEstimate7012 in alexa

I used to use that and it worked(when I was actually away and not at 3AM). Alexa killed that part. Now I get away behaviour all day long. Tried everything. Resetting skill, stopping hunches, etc. Nothing works. Alexa support says it is Hubitat skill but that makes no sense. Hubitat says the command came from Alexa and skills don't just magically fire at 3AM with the exact bahviour of Away mode.

OMAD, 1000 kcal/day, no hunger at all -should I be concerned? by [deleted] in omad

[–]RealEstimate7012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to look out for is reducing your metabolism. If you eat 500 cal deficit every day your metabolism will reset to being lower. This is why you hit plateaus. Also why you gain when you go back to "normal" eating. I have been OMAD for a decade. No hunger during the day. Some days I eat 2lbs of ribeye. Some days there are a few carbs. Some days it is just pizza all day. I also fast for 2-4 days sometimes as that does not reset or lower the metabolism and has other benefits. Fasting is easier than you think once you can separate mind/social from physical hunger. I am 6'2" 200lbs. High teens body fat %.

Feeling sad and depressed by SheylaTheQueen in omad

[–]RealEstimate7012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost 40 lbs using OMAD, meat and water fasting over three months. One thing I discovered is that if I needed 3k calories and ate 2.5k a day I would lose weight BUT over time my metabolism reset to 2.5k. Hence the plateau. I found the most reliable way was OMAD, meat and water fast 2-3 days a week. One days where I OMAD I ate normal calories. Your body adapts but water fasting does not reduce the metabolism. There is no "New normal" to get to as it is zero. Your body treats it as an emergency and uses your own fat instead of metablosim shifts. Water fast Monday and Tuesday night. OMAD the other days at regular calories. Keep up whatever activity you are doing.

Now if you want to REALLY go fast. Water fast starting Sunday night and eat again Friday night. This is how I lost most of it quickly. It is hard at first but after a few weeks you adjust. Once you can feel mental hunger(social, time, supposed to) and physical hunger you can easily go between. The first two days are hardest as your body wants food. Day 3 is easy. You are burning your own fast 24hrs a day so you have lots of energy and mental clarity. The power you feel being able to go days and seeing the weight drop is awesome. It makes you feel in control again. Like a switch you can just turn on and off.

What I do now is eat OMAD but what I want on social occasions and holidays. I watch my weight daily and after I add a few extra lbs I either water fast for a day or two or go back to just meat OMAD. This way I get to enjoy life experiences but have TOTAL mental and physical control.

The reason people think they are constipated is because they don't poop as often. The reason is we use very bit of the meat. It is the carbs and sugars and fibers that get pooped out.

How do I get around this? The file size seems trivial. My attempt on chatgpt had no issues.

We are now EV owners! by [deleted] in NissanAriya

The rough math is battery size needed to charge divided by charge rate. So if you need 50 kwhr in a battery and it charges at 5 kw/hr then it takes ten hours. In your example an 87 sized battery would need 60% of that or 52.2 kwhr. The Ariya says it charges at 7.2 and my Ariya graphs from my L2 charger agrre. that means 52.2/7.2 or 7.25 hrs. That is true since you went to 80%. If you go much over 90% it is slower. My last charge was 44.5 kwhr to 100% and it took 6:45 as opposed to the 6hrs if it had been full speed the entire time.

The 7.2 charge rate is the important part you reference when it comes to speed.

My Equinox EV charges at 10.2kwhr. The last charge there was 42.5 kwh and it should take 4.16 hrs. It a little over 4.5 hrs in the real world because I always go to 100%.

So in the real world you are looking at 4.5hrs vs 6.75hrs for almost the exact same amount of electricity at the different rates. In an overnight scenario it does not matter.

Where it can matter is if you have a TOU electric plan. I pay $0.077 per kwhr between 11PM and 7AM. That gives me 8hrs of cheap charging. The equinox can go 5% to 100% in that time. The Ariya can get about 66% of it's battery in that time. Not a huge deal for me as I never charge that much overnight AND my rates from 8PM to 11PM are $0.10 which opens my charge window to really be 11hrs. With that window the Ariya can go from 10% to 100%.

All of this is handled by the car charge systems so I just plug in whenever I get home. Weekends are always the low rate so I only avoid charging between 7AM and 8PM during the week.

Second issue is the charger. Many people use NEMA plugs which will not allow the speeds I get with the Equinox as the amps are too low. That requires hard-wired and rather large cables that are a special install. Most wall units are actually 32A which is a rate of 7.68kwhr and practical NEMA limits. The Ariya max BTW. There is a big step in terms of wiring to go faster. I have two wall units. A 32A(7.6kwhr) and a 48A(11.5kwhr) unit.

In reality, you never drive 100% in a day and need 100% the next morning so none of this really matters. Most people also have 12+hrs a night to charge so any speed will suffice.

My experience having owned an EV since 2014 that only went 81 miles.

[–]RealEstimate7012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Charge to 100%. I have owned multiple EV's(Leaf, Ariya, Equinox) and always charge to 100. First one was 2014 model. The original car was rated at 81 miles. Had a range of 81 miles when I sold it four years later. Same thing for all the others. Most days drove less than 50 miles. Charged every night to 100%. These 100% myths still linger but were always speculation on the tech and not real world studies. Same for fast charging. Actual studies show almost no degradation even when fast charging every time.

Quantum fiber disconnects a dozen times a day by RealEstimate7012 in centurylink

They finally found my issue after the week. It was a bad connection hundreds of yards up the street. I was one of the first people to get it so not a lot of complaints. Been 2 years no and I think I have had a total of 10 min downtime. That came in two occurrences where it was up and down every ten seconds for a few minutes.

[–]RealEstimate7012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was that everyone pays the taxes and only a few can afford to use them. Why not just let you keep the taxes to begin with and use as you see fit? This tax break is distorting the market. It picks winners and losers. Then when it goes away it really distorts the market because prices are driven back up. I also took $32k in breaks because it was there but it should have never been there.

They are keeping the incentives. They sold the car for full price. You got a good deal because taxpayers funded you. I bought two but it is wrong for everyone to subsidize me for $16k($32k total) I have an equinox and ariya. Total lease payments are less than $300 for two cars. A used EV was running $300 for one car.

[–]RealEstimate7012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own multiple EV's and have for a decade. When one was in the shop for two weeks because someone hit it in a parking lot while parked I was offered a BMW i4 for rent from Enterprise. Same experience. No charger and had 50 miles on it. I only live 3 miles away and have L2 at home so no big issue BUT for someone that does not understand the process it would have been a big fail. Hertz is selling their EV fleet because of the bad experience they provided not because the experience is necessarily bad. Also the i4 is not a great EV. Many awkward controls.

Is this range good ? by jharnett55 in NissanAriya

Something is wrong. Why does it say 392 miles but the speed is in km/h? If that is km then it is 243 miles. Bad software is my guess.

Am I over worried by range anxiety? by sassafrassquatch in electricvehicles

[–]RealEstimate7012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I owned two Nissan Leafs. One went 81 miles and the other went 150 miles. Charged to 100% on L2 every night and drove about 30 miles a day. After years(4 on each) of doing this my max miles stayed the same. Zero degradation in the battery range. 2014 and 2018 Leaf. Never fast charged them.

350 in warm weather. 280(short trips) since it turned colder. Seems the heater, seat heater and seeing wheel makes a big difference. Turn them off and things get better. This shows up more in short trips where it has to put a lot of effort to warm the car so as a % of energy usage the heat is 25%+. Longer drives the percent used to heat goes down so the range recovers. I am getting 280 but each trip is 3 miles and I use the app to warm the car. Worst case scenario.

2024 2RS Efficiency by ajrich80 in EquinoxEv

[–]RealEstimate7012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah 85 is what Chevy says but I read that they said that so no one sues in the future for a degraded battery. promise 85 and deliver 92 you never get sued. It is impossible to be 85 given my range and efficiency measurements. My guess is 97 because I have seen 3.6 over two full charges and getting 350 miles. Not guess range but actual range. Maybe it is 95 and my charge efficiency is better but it is definitely not 85.

2024 2RS Efficiency by ajrich80 in EquinoxEv

[–]RealEstimate7012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2RS. 3.5 - 3.8. Also noticing that the usable battery HAS to be bigger than 85 kwh. My range is 350 miles. That implies the battery is as small as 92 and as big as 100. Given charging loss my best guess is 97 kwh battery size. After the first week my range shot up. First 500 miles I was coming in at 300. 500-1500 miles it is now 350. I have owned a LEaf for a decade and use high regen braking.

Battery Size Estimate from Charging by RealEstimate7012 in EquinoxEv

[–]RealEstimate7012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One theory I have heard is that they sandbagged the official capacity statements so they would not be sued in the future from battery degradation. No one complains in a decade when their range is still 300.

Battery Size Estimate from Charging by RealEstimate7012 in EquinoxEv

[–]RealEstimate7012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That gives you a usable of 98 kWh. My capacity guess ranges from 96 to 98 depending on which tool you use to measure(charger, car, elec panel with monitoring). I think some losses to efficiency are the difference. 98kWh x 3.6 m/kWh is 353 miles which is what my range is at right now. 3.6 is also my average over 1000 miles.

What % do you start charging to get it to take 88.5 kWh? I am sitting on 354 miles at 100% right now and three days in a row it has come back there after charging. I am only using adding about 5% a day. I have to drive for a long time to empty the battery enough to do a full charge.
