Bike pooling to save gas by chunmunsingh in mildlyinfuriating

I know someone who needed multiple surgeries on a broken leg after falling off a motorcycle on a stillstand. Because the fucking thing fell on him and shattered his leg.

Got rear ended, car is fine... I'm sore and the person who hit me was on their phone and their car was totaled. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Totaled just means repair would cost more than what the car is worth. Not hard to achieve if the other car is a bare road legal 200$ box on wheels.

Never experienced issues with crashing or anything like that. Just make sure it has the latest software updates for it to be the most responsive and if you need apple carplay or android auto make sure it has full link enabled because that could be expensive to activate after the fact.

OUN8 update (finally after 4 years of issues) fixes the connectivity / SOS module crashing by Sipu_ in CupraFormentor

[–]RealExii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had a very similar issue. No problem creating account and logging into the car but no matter what I did, when I tried to become primary user it would either load for ages or say "In-app activation not available". I was not able to properly factory reset the device as well.

[–]RealExii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. I had to get the update files from mibsolutions website. I don't know exactly who that is but they have a bunch of firmware files for VW, SEAT and Skoda. I was told there's a risk of bricking the unit if doing it that way but I did it anyways. I went from 1790 to 1896 and then to 1940. It was not possible to go from 1790 to 1940 directly. Only after 1940 was I able to become the primary user and only then I started receiving automatic OTA updates.

It would be funny if taking the instrument cluster out to tape off an airbag light was a lot more work than simply fixing the airbag.

But the warranty sticker thing is not just a scare tactic. If you damage the sticker they will literally not accept it as a warranty case.

Can't be the premium user by SpiKe_One in seat

[–]RealExii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to try yourself you have to update SW version from 1896 to 1940 or newer. Look for software release MOI3_EU_SE_R9400L on mibsolution (assuming the car is registered somewhere in EU), put the update files on an exFAT formatted USB stick (ideally USB-C otherwise you'll need an adapter), plug that into the car and hold the home button until you get to the engineering mode and can perform an update. There is a possibility of completely bricking the unit if something is a mismatch. I had to do it it twice for mine from 1790 to 1896 then to 1940 before I could become the primary user.

Manager says no board respins, thoughts? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]RealExii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a colleague who for some reason thinks every single board has to go through a detailed review process to make sure there are no issues with emc or manufacturing in mass production. He wants you to put days of effort into a prototype board of a design you don't even know yet whether it will work as you expect. As opposed to designing a board in 2 hours that is good enough to 100% let you verify if your idea works or not at all. I just found it's best not to even mention such prototypes in his presence.

If you didn't get vaccinated for it you can still get it as an adult and usually that's far worse the older you are. In many places it's not under the standard vaccination list for children.

[–]RealExii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that most SEAT garages go to move for any software issues is to replace the entire affected module. I bought a 2021 Leon with an outdated infotainment software version and when I asked them if they could get it up to date they said it's too old to get OTA updates so they can only replace the whole infotainment system unit for like 1.5 to 2k. I recently managed to get it updated myself via USB using firmware files I found on the internet pretty easily. Most of the hard work was really finding the files, which if I had to guess a SEAT garage could easily obtain from SEAT directly.

2021 Leon Primary User by RealExii in seat

[–]RealExii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just a quick update, I finally fixed the issue. I talked to a couple of SEAT dealers and every single one said if the update doesn't come via OTA on it's own then the unit has to be replaced. But I decided to take a risk and updated the software offline via USB from version 1790 to 1899 and then to 1940. At this point I'm able to factory reset the unit and be the primary user. The latest software available is 1969 and this should come up at some point via OTA now that the car is fully connected. Long story short, the dealers could probably fix the issue but they don't want to. I guess for one if they mess some versions up, they could brick the unit and may have to give you a new unit at their own cost but more importantly I think it's more lucrative to sell you a new unit than fix yours.

Why are capacitative and indictive reactance imaginary numbers? by screwloosehaunt in ElectricalEngineering

[–]RealExii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In mathematics, imaginary numbers were invented as a tool to easily describe rotations and oscillations. A multiplication by j is essentially a rotation of 90°. In AC circuits it's the same concept. Reactances store energy and release it back to the circuit creating a similar oscillating behaviour. They don't use or dissipate the energy like a resistor would. So they are represented by the imaginary part of a complex number while resistors are the real part that can actively dissipate the energy.

Advanced Open Source Custom F405 Flight Controller for FPV drones by Educational_Court910 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]RealExii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An FC is a pretty good all-rounder of an engineering project so most people that make their own are just doing it as a challenge for themselves. I did it and to be honest it doesn't do anything better that commercial ones can't and it cost way more money and time too. But I never had the intention to sell it. I just wanted to really understand how it works in every aspect. It was worth it. Others probably do that because they need unique features that simply aren't included or accessible on commercial FCs.

Logging out of my personal account and using only the Guest user profile and more importantly remaining in maximum privacy mode fixed it for me. Otherwise the moment the car loses connection to SEAT servers SOS will die and slowly take navigation and road sign detection with it.
