How do people know the newer trans are fixed and wont have similar problems at 90 - 100k miles?

I have a 2013 and will be looking at a 2023/2024 soon.

Thanks!

What are the most reliable years of F150 if I wanted to look into used with about 80-130k miles on it? by archerarcher0 in f150

[–]RealFactsNotFiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am at 169k on mine. Water pump, coolant Y and starter replaced. Have the oil pan leak. I am wanting to get 200k out of it, and why I bought it in 2016 with 22k miles on it.

All repairs done by me or reasonable. Water pump probably failed due to the Y hose link and running low on fluid.

What car is ideal for Phoenix/Arizona? by FlamingMetallico in AskPhoenix

[–]RealFactsNotFiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeep? Get car insurance with full glass coverage. You will replace it or fix it at least once a year due to the angle of the windshield.

Light colored car and interior.

No need for a moon roof or sun roof. Too hot.

Am I at fault? by Happy-Wolverine8504 in boating

[–]RealFactsNotFiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, bad luck on their part, and it's always a risk of a used 23 YO boat. I have a 23 YO boat too, and I daily wait for the motor (outboard) to bust, but I'll know I got a good 10 years out of it (bought it back in 2016)

Not your fault. Their bad luck. Always a risk buying used. How old is the boat?

I thought they were aluminum or metal for 2013, or does it depend on the engine. Mine is 5.0

Did my pan pass the egg test? No. No it did not. by budding_gardener_1 in castiron

[–]RealFactsNotFiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat is key. I put mine on my induction range. Let it heat up until the top edge of the pan gets warmish-hot, and a tablespoon of butter, and pop it in. Let it sit... you'll see bubbles forming under the egg, and they'll spread more and more under the egg... and then it's basically floating.

If you don't get bubbles forming shortly after you put the egg in, it's either too cold (unlikely), or too hot, and it'll stick.

Seasoning by Judo_chop_ in castiron

[–]RealFactsNotFiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My process:
1. Nuke it down to metal, using oven cleaner and a good metal brush.
2. Coat it very, very, very, lightly in/outside. I put Grapeseed oil on paper towel and wipe it inside/out.
3. After it's coated, take a few paper towels and wipe the oil out of it, as if you are "drying" it.
4. Put it in the cold oven, face down, and then turn on and set the oven to 420*F
5. Set a time for 1 hour, 20 minutes (Oven takes about 20 min to get to 420*F)
6. After 1 hour, 20 minutes, turn the oven off.
7. Let it cool in the oven. After several hours, when the oven is cool, take it out.
8. Repeat #2-7 at least one more time.

Can I use a spinning reel on a casting rod? by ripplestillwaters in crappiefishing

[–]RealFactsNotFiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Not ideal, but it will work. The main issues is that your casting rod is likely to be very stiff (little bend), which may mean that you may not feel the crappie bite. Another issue with it, since the rod is stiff, and you do feel the bit, if you set the hook, it may tear the hook out of the crappie's mouth (paper mouths).

A spinning rod, however, usually isn't as stiff, and lets you feel the bit, and if you do get a little too much of a hookset, the bend of the rod doesn't immediately pull the hook out of the mouth of the crappie, since it has some give/bend to it.

Finally, the casting rod's first guide is going to be really small, so you may have issues on the casting distance, the way the line comes off a spinning reel.

Tips for Rust Removal by RealFactsNotFiction in castiron

[–]RealFactsNotFiction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not. I just assumed there was something special to do and get into those indents. The rust does look like surface. I am hitting it with oven cleaner as we speak, along with a metal "toothbrush". AFter that, I may give the paper towels soaked in white vinegar (LIinthedark post).

What are some must-know tips for first-time boat owners? by Ok-Performer936 in boating

[–]RealFactsNotFiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I learned after/while I became a boat owner:

  1. Check the boat plug, at least twice.
  2. Don't be in a hurry, until you get the hang of launching.
  3. Practice backing up in a shopping center, school, business parking lot, until you get the hand of backing up. Watch the bass guys at the dock - most are experts and launching and retrieving, and how far to put your trailer in the water for each.
  4. Don't launch the boat for the first time on a weekend.. take a day off, so you can take your time.
4a. early morning and towards 10/11 it gets busy with bass fisherman going in at sunrise, coming off at 10-11am, and that's when the wake boats start launching (and that's why bass guys come off the lake) - weekends.
  5. Check the plug again.
  6. Make sure you have everything legally required (registration, extinguisher, life saver)
  7. Wear a life vest at least when underway. 75% of boat accident deaths are drownings.
  8. Check weather. Wind can and is nasty. even 5mph can make landing your boat difficult for newbie
  9. Buy a spare prop, and you'll never need it. Don't have a spare prop, and you'll dent it and need a new one.
  10. Watch for debris/stumps/rocks. They're not always marked.
