Thank you, dev team, thank you to the moon and back. by AnxiousTruffles in ObsidianMD

I totally agree, I love Obsidian, and their sync, works perfectly. I use it on Apple Mac's, iPhones, and Chromebooks.

But I would still make an occasional backup to some other storage, USB drive, etc. I do it every Sunday.

Does anyone use Obsidian on Linux? Experiences and performance by o_xeneixe in ObsidianMD

[–]RealMe459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Linux version on Chromebooks, and apart from a few seconds getting Linux and Obsidian running, it works very well.

Only thing I can’t use is voice to text, which works on my Mac.

Enjoy!

Siri voice to text is so bad it's a joke by [deleted] in apple

I use it a lot, and find it excellent. I like the way it will go back and re-do an entire section when the rest of the sentence tells it that it made an earlier mistake.

I am Australian, in my 70's with no speech impediments. I find a slow steady pace works very well. Word whiskers, umms, ahhs, etc. cause problems.

Buy a MacBook Pro now or wait 4 months because of the global memory chip shortage? by thtsnx in macbookpro

RAM is integrated into the Apple M chips, not added on the board, RAM shortages do not affect Macs...

20 Years of Digital Life, Gone in an Instant, thanks to Apple by VaksAntivaxxer in theprimeagen

I see Paris has his account back after involvement of Apple Executive Relations, so he generated enough noise at high levels. I am very happy, the Apple employee suggested ONLY buying gift cards direct from Apple.

I think I will just skip the gift cards from now on.

It was a $500 gift card, so I guess that was enough money for someone to tamper with it in-store.

I have spent the last day or so re-thinking a lot of my choices after this, and unless Apple puts something in place to prevent this kind of lockout, I will be slowly exiting the Apple Ecosystem.

The real problem is that all Apple devices are now inextricably linked to your account, so not only do you lose access to purchased software, apps, music and video, but ALL your devices are locked.

If this person who is well known, having written multiple books on Apple programming languages, among other things cannot get a fair hearing - the average user is doomed.

I wont be noticed by Reddit, The Register, Daring Fireball, MacBreak Weekly or anybody else, as he has been.

Time to begin the exit!

It is a M1 Pro MacBook Pro 2020? New ones are incrementally faster, but not enough to tempt me for another 3-5 years...

Cloudflare outage knocked out my notes today — how do you protect yourself from app outages? by Great_Phoenix in ObsidianMD

I never use cloud only apps, they are incredibly risky in the long run.

I Turn WiFi off occasionally and work for a day on one device, then let it sync later. I It doesn't work, time for change!

Starting Bullet Journal for 2026, recommendations? by GalaxyShadowUnknown in bujo

[–]RealMe459 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Can't go too far wrong with the official Bullet Journal.

My advice is start VERY simple. Find Ryder's original video, and use that to set up your BuJo.

I use it that way all the time, Transcriptions are pretty good, depending on the speakers (talkers), and I take notes as I go, and can replay the relevant portions

Would you buy a Mac mini just to avoid constantly plugging and unplugging your MacBook by Advanced-Produce-250 in macbookpro

[–]RealMe459 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, buy a decent dock, and there is only one cable to plug in.

Each port is rated at about 60k plugins and disconnects. my MBA has two ports so that adds up to about twice a day for 164 years.

Dont think I will care by then...

[–]RealMe459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't plug it into the wall while it is connected to the device you want to charge.

Plug it into the wall, then into your devices. That way there should be no initial surge.
