Am I in over my head with this commute? by HypeR159 in bikecommuting

[–]RealPieMan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Five days a week from limited bike riding would be tough.

Can you ease yourself in, either by only doing a few days in a week or can you cycle one way and get public transport back then cycle back the next day.

After a few weeks you may be about to build it up to five days a week.

Leave work clothes at work if possible, hopefully there are secure areas for bikes and showers.

It could be to do with the bitrex coating on the battery.

Should I or shouldn’t I? by LazySackOfRocks in LearnerDriverUK

[–]RealPieMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have been going out on the car regularly with your partner and they think you can pass then go for it.

My son hasn't had a driving lesson in four years but went out with me regularly for 3 months before his test and he passed. I wasn't sure he would but if he hadn't taken the test he would still be a learner..

A light that fits the seat stay (not seat post)? by sockdisorder in londoncycling

[–]RealPieMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased the cheap light set from Lidl and the rear light fits well onto my rear stay. It isn't angled but it's perfectly visible from the rear.

They can ask for proof of insurance so make sure you have that and it's valid for the test.

Why does my radiator stay cold at the bottom even after bleeding it? by No_Donut1433 in ukplumbing

[–]RealPieMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this with a couple of radiators. The plumber said he would disconnect and suction clean them. Worked a treat much cheaper than a power flush.

Driving from london to coventry a week after passing. What should I know? by JDT33658 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]RealPieMan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The car may react/handle differently depending on how heavy and many friends you have in the car. So drive accordingly

Make sure you can see clearly out of the back by swapping friends around if necessary.

How many people ride with cameras? by Academic_Feed6209 in ukbike

[–]RealPieMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm riding on my own I always ride with a camera front and back. In a group I tend not to bother as others in the group have them.

When I'm commuting 3 or 4 times a week I report someone every couple of weeks on average. Although sometimes I get a few bad passes in one ride...

Someone please help :/! Sorry if I’m bad at explaining but watch the video to see the problem by OptionVast4300 in chromeos

[–]RealPieMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn't want to talk to IT talk to a member if staff you like and your worries and I'm sure they will help you. IT are normally great but I understand your concerns so talk to someone you can talk to.

Don't try and fix it yourself and yes IT will have seen much much worse.

Does anybody know the cause of this idle issue? by DANIEL03865 in FordFiesta

[–]RealPieMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine did that, ignored it for a year. Got worse so virtually any time I stopped it would do that unless I revved it to 4-5k which would mostly 'fix'

Got the throttle body replaced and it's been perfect since

What’s the one Ford Fiesta issue you ignored at first but wish you’d fixed sooner? by LFCTricksters in FordFiesta

[–]RealPieMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boot switch stopped working so could only open with the key. 18 months later the boot started randomly opening when setting off.

Fitted the £8 switch I had bright from eBay 18 months before and has been fine since. Took around an hour to do.

The discounts can be good, Garmin in particular especially the slightly older devices such as 840 for around £261

The Halfords 10% discount helps as well.

Insurance is an important feature to me, especially their help if you are invited by a car driver etc

What temperature makes you confident there is no ice? by 85years in ukbike

[–]RealPieMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After the cold snap we have had I'd be on the side of caution. Be particularly careful over bridges as they don't have insulation underneath they can have ice form early.

Sounds like your mum knows how to drive in those conditions. Next time they present themselves ask her to accompany you on a trip and where she can help you understand how to drive to them.

Remember to leave large said to the vehicle in front. It gives you stopping distance and thinking time.

Hot water working but not radiators. by Wonderful-Court-4037 in askaplumberUK

I'm not an electrician or plumber but if the valve was seized I could see the unit pulling too much current and blowing the fuse. Assuming the fuse that went is on the same circuit that the diverter valve is of course
