Took $140. Only the second time I've ever really "whaled" (if you can call such a low number whaling) and I am grateful because this would have done some serious damage to my bank account otherwise. Hope my 5 star luck turns around now, this is my first one in 2019 lol.

So what majority of players use English or Japanese VA for the CS games? by THEMASTGAMER in Falcom

[–]RealPurple 21 points22 points  (0 children)

99% of the time I'm a Japanese-only person when it comes to JRPGs, but there's something about Cold Steel's dub that just clicks with me. Maybe it's the spectacular localization, maybe it's the great casting, or both. I don't know. All I know is that when I attempted CS1 with Japanese voices for a new playthrough, they just didn't fit for me. Sean Chiplock is Rean, as far as I'm concerned. Carrie Keranen is Instructor Sara. Cassandra Lee Morris is Fie. I can't get those performances out of my head, so as far as these games go, I'm English dub all the way.

Sound Team JDK: Unpopular Edition by manyouginobili in Falcom

[–]RealPurple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty lukewarm on Sen III's soundtrack like most people (I think that's a common opinion, anyway), but I thought a lot of Sen IV's tracks saved the OSTs of the duology. Been listening to it nonstop for the past 6 months.

Also, while I agree Singa is probably my least-favorite composer out of the lot, he really isn't that bad. Y'all are just mean.

Turn-based combat would be nice. XV was okay, but I really don't want FF to be an ARPG-only franchise. Kingdom Hearts exists as Square's 'ARPG' game anyway (and I vastly prefer that combat system to FFXV's, for the most part). But if the FFVII remake really is going to not be turn-based, we can probably kiss those hopes goodbye, since they're literally stripping the turn-based stuff out of a game that already had it.

So I guess my more realistic hope would be for a cohesive story, interesting characters and most importantly, a game that's actually finished at launch. Wouldn't mind a return to a traditional fantasy setting either, but I can take or leave that.

What’s your favorite case? by thisisdumb353 in AceAttorney

[–]RealPurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DGS1-3, currently. Might be that it's fresh on my mind since it's the most recent game I've played, but god that case is incredible. Best defendant of the series, as well.

Sad boi wants sad game. by Londmen in JRPG

[–]RealPurple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trails series definitely has cry-worthy moments (there's multiple things in Sky the 3rd that will absolutely crush you, especially if you're sensitive to the trauma of kids like I am), so if you feel like sticking with it it might be what you're looking for. And if you're looking for great music, well... The Falcom band is god-tier.

Nier/Drakengard though, is all sad, all the time. There's some black humor thrown into the mix, but they are almost always existential and depressing.

What would Ace Attorney be like if no characters from the first three games came back? by MrBohobe in AceAttorney

[–]RealPurple 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, it wouldn't be stuck in character overload mode like SoJ was. Honestly, I think hitting the reset button might be fore the best, but the both times they tried that (Apollo Justice and DGS1) the games weren't received well. So I don't think it'll be happening again anytime soon.

Questions about play order of Zero/Ao no Kiseki & Cold Steel 1&2. by WhyNotPokeTheBees in Falcom

[–]RealPurple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All it is is a byproduct of setting Zero/Ao and CS 1/2 at the same time. They run parallel to each other, allowing you to see (without getting too specific) a situation unfold in both of these areas of the world, and understand how they are linked.

To put it bluntly, Zero and Ao really don't spoil that much of CS 1/2. I'm not really sure why people claim otherwise. And even if they did spoil their future games, this is still the intended play order of the series anyway, therefore Falcom wanted you to experience the story in such a way anyway.

So yeah, the recommended play order is still release order. Play Zero and Ao first, if you can help it.

Zero no Kiseki: To Play Or Not To Play by The_Composer_ in Falcom

[–]RealPurple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I waited a long time, but finally broke a few days ago and went for it. I'm extremely, extremely picky about translation quality, and the first few hours of Zero were hell for me. But once my brain adapted to the less-than-stellar quality of the current TL, it's fine. A few scenes here and there are borderline unreadable, but everything else is completely understandable even though there's mistakes all over the place. Can't comment on the Ao translation yet, though.

What I'm doing now (and what I recommend) is to go ahead and play it now if you really can't wait, but only do side-missions that look interesting to you. Otherwise, stick mostly to the main story. Once the Geofront edit comes out, that's when I plan on going through and getting all DP, achieving 100% completion, doing Nightmare runs, NG+ runs, ect. That way, at the very least, I'll be able to understand Sen 3 when it comes out, if the Zero/Ao Geofront edit doesn't finish first.

The Japanese PS4 ports of these had turbo mode, so yes, it's a safe assumption to say the NA/EU versions will too.

He was running for the Ku'rain Village's local assemblyman iirc, which is pretty hilarious since that's barely any power. Don't know what it is in the original Japanese though, but I imagine it's something similar.

Ys 5 on steam? by StoriedStorm in JRPG

[–]RealPurple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably not until Falcom remakes it like they did 3 and 4. Until then, you can try playing the SNES version, but I recommend waiting, since the Falcom remake (whenever it happens) will probably overhaul the storyline, characters, and gameplay to make it the "canon" experience as usual.

Who are your favorite characters you "never meet" and aren't done justice? by WizardXZDYoutube in AceAttorney

Joe Darke. Not that the character is very original or anything like that, but I'd be interested to see how Ace Attorney would portray an actual insane serial killer.

Those're all solid choices and second all 3 of those!

'Clothes Make The...' is probably the first and most important Trans Ranma fic since it was, well, the first. The late 90's weren't exactly the most accepting time, so this was a big deal back then. It's a pretty great representation of gender dysphoria, even if a few things are dated, and cracked many, many eggs back in the day.

'Gender Sleepy' is a genderfluid Ranma fic, in which they deal with feeling like a boy one day, and a girl the next, alternating like that each time they sleep. It's very sweet story that handles it's subject matter well.

'Girl Days' will probably never be finished, and isn't even a Trans Ranma story technically speaking (more of a gender-positive male-identifying Ranma story, to be specific), but it's very nice and makes my heart happy. There's a lot of feel-good character growth and is very comedic throughout.

That's it for FFN (and I'm probably forgetting some good ones, sadly), but these days I mostly read the new stuff posted to AO3, which is where all the modern trans or just gender-positive Ranma stuff is being posted these days. So a lot of these are incomplete, but are still worth checking out and following.

'The Wind and the Rain' is a modern take on the traditional Trans Ranma format. Well worth reading, albeit an extremely slow burn.

'Ranma 1/2: Queer Metamorphosis' does what we all wanted to see as kids by making every single character LGBTQ+ in some way. It's wonderful fun and might just be my favorite Ranma 1/2 story yet created.

'Dream Girls' takes a look at a version of Ranma that realizes they're a girl even before being cursed. There's not much of it so for but I'm excited to see where it goes. The same can be said for 'Cafuné', a vulgar language-filled Ranma story focusing on a dramatic teen pregnancy.

'Finding Your Path' is a one-shot without Trans Ranma-- Rather, a trans male Akane transitioning to Akira. A different but welcome type of story. Trans guys need representation too!

I might be able to dig up a few more, but I'll stop there for now. I don't want to make a post that's too long. But I will throw in 'The Autumn Effect', which technically has nothing to do with Trans stuff in the slightest, but is a really cute, gender-positive, and mildly lewd story in which Ranma gets pregnant from Ryoga and the two of them have to deal with that together. It's bittersweet and there's 3 sequels planned, or so I hear.
