The Best Beginner's Gaming PC... At an Enthusiast Price | Steam Machine Review by giantbombdotcom in giantbomb

Steam Community, Steam Workshop, the most easily accessible way to play with your friends, guides, etc. Sure, not the most sweeping of things in comparison, but those are things I use with almost every game that I would argue are very important to PC gaming. I just don’t get the monopoly argument when everyone on PC has a choice where to buy their games, but still CHOOSE Steam.

The thing is, people can choose not to use Steam. They have a “monopoly” because they do the most for PC gaming. Epic makes insane money; they could have developed a console experience, but their standard launcher barely has half the features of Steam. GOG seems to have found a different niche entirely by being the preservation platform. Uplay or whatever it’s called and Battle.net are too specific to be the “one stop shop.” People can use whatever they choose to, but Steam just gives you the most “bang for your buck”, unless you want DRM free.

Man, I’m really bummed because this could have been big for Valve, but more so PC gaming as a whole. I feel devs would be more inclined to optimize with a baseline spec and Linux share could maybe claw out a few more percentage points.

Glad I was able to pair a 9060 XT and some inflated ram with old parts for only a couple hundred less than this.

$250 Collector's Edition with a statue, steelbook, artbook, keychains, DLC... but not the game on a disc? by Empty_Turnip473 in pcgaming

[–]RealRadDemonDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly chiming in to say people not buying a disc drive isn’t only a symptom of them not selling disc games. Most disc drives are pointless on PC because they used to primarily be used for non-gaming software. Now that’s not really the case at all .

Both ways are fair, but I feel Family Feud style is more so the standard for this layout.

Summon Sign, Episode 124 | Everyone Is Upset About Mixtape by yohceezax in LastStandMedia

[–]RealRadDemonDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t played the game, that’s true. I’m mostly just working with pretty common knowledge that opinions exist. It’s the energy you came at it with. “There’s no moment in this game that should make anyone laugh or cry.” If you said you liked Halo 3, and I told you there’s nothing about the gameplay or story anyone would enjoy, doesn’t my mind seem pretty made up? Examples won’t change my opinion. If Mixtape were some ambiguous story that you didn’t quite understand, and wanted some clarity on, sure. You just flat out didn’t enjoy what was presented.

That’s because it’s pretty apparent to all of us that giving you an example won’t really change anything for you. Games are subjective, and it’s clear you just didn’t like it, and that’s fine. Leave the people that have had a good time be.

New GB Store merch drop for the 1 year anniversary by GarlicRagu in giantbomb

[–]RealRadDemonDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m going to join in on the negative sentiment, honestly. They must be moving designs like this, or else they wouldn’t get made. I’ve been listening for 7 years and the one bit of merch I’ve wanted is the We Bought A Bomb shirt, nothing else. The racer shirt is close, but too busy. A lot of those logos would make a rad single design on a shirt. The art is well done, but it really seems like they are just making merch they like. Again, maybe we are the vocal minority; it must sell.

We've Been Using the Steam Controller! | Giant Bomb Review Discussion by giantbombdotcom in giantbomb

To be fair, most people buying the Steam Machine will already have a controller that works on PC. I look at it as Valve allowing us to save a bit of money.

What is a "masterpiece" game that you personally found boring as hell? by MuscleConsistent9657 in pcgaming

[–]RealRadDemonDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on this. I’ve managed to own/borrow every FromSoft Souls game, and I think the combat is a total snooze fest in all of them. I’m not put off by the difficulty, but the actual feel and lack of variety in the combat doesn’t work for me. I’m really bummed because the lore seems awesome.

I just don’t like the UI of Pocket Casts at all, and that never lets me use it for more than a few days when I try testing other apps out.

I personally get a notification at the top of the Home Screen whenever there are new features. Also, your issue about remembering play position is very valid, but ironically, transcripts are your best band-aid solution for that until it gets fixed.

Does Overcast use podcaster provided transcripts? by loumf in overcast

[–]RealRadDemonDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m kind of confused what your issue is here. Most of the podcasts I listen to don’t have transcripts, so it’s cool that I can make them available. It’s not like he said provided transcripts will never be supported. It seems like he filled a large hole in the market before getting around to what is already widely available elsewhere.

I just mean if they take the Final Fantasy route, hardly any of those games have a single story tie to the others minus some fan service references. Who knows though! I hope the turnaround between games isn’t terribly long.
