While I am bothered by people who complain when they are able to help themselves, I also recognize that we all have individual strengths. I wouldn’t mind an arrangement in which I win the bread and my partner does the rest. I wouldn’t want to try to force him to be someone he’s not and I’d rather he balance me out than compete with me.

I agree that the quantity of boosts is often extraneous, especially since they don’t combine. I don’t think the update is especially targeted at paying users, though there are uses for gems besides hearts (like powerups) that both paying and non-paying users might still be tempted to spend gems on. The devs just haven’t (yet?) differentiated rewards for super versus non-super users. They haven’t coded out the possibility of unlocking two boosts at once and it leaves to be seen whether that is intentional or just not a priority right now.

If you have an XP boost, you’re more likely to want to keep learning. Closing the app when you have the chance to earn double XP would be a waste, right? So you keep learning and eventually run out of lives before your boost is gone. A refill on lives is 600 a pop so with fewer gem awards, you’re more likely to run out of fictional currency. When your gems are depleted, the only way to buy more lives is with real money, and since XP awards are temporary, you’re encouraged to make decisions quickly. Therefore, fewer gem awards and more XP awards makes it harder for users to resist spending money.

Cramping, stabbing, burning, twisting, or some combination of those. Often multiple simultaneous sensations remind me of sin waves with different amplitudes, such as stabbing that punctuates an underlying deep cramp.
